In common with five of the six winners, Susannah graduated from the prestigious Norton College in Sheffield. Following her win, she started a six-month contract working as a Times photographer.

"My greatest assignment was covering the Labour Party Conference, surrounded by so many famous politicians in the middle of a great news story and plenty of opportunity to be as creative with my pictures as I liked," she said.

"I also vividly remember my first assignment - the premier of the movie The Bourne Ultimatum. I was nervous in the middle of so many photographers and on a very tight deadline too. What a fantastic feeling when my picture was actually published in The Times.

"At first I was a little intimidated when I would turn up on an assignment and there would be ten other photographers also there, but now I enjoy the challenge and get a real buzz when my pictures are published.

"I never realised just how competitive this job was."
