COVERAGE of personal finance news was revolutionised last week, when a daily Money weblog went live on the Times Online website.

Initially covering one or two topics each day, Sunday Times and Times writers will put their own gloss on the news in the now-established weblog style.

Peter Bale, head of Times Online, said: “We hope that this will make personal finance reporting on our website more closely in tune with the way the internet is going — personal, informal, opinionated and fun.”

Last week the Money weblogs wrote about mobile-phone insurance, the fact that the average British smoker spends £92,000 on cigarettes over a lifetime, and differences of opinion among economists over how fast the UK economy is sinking.

The idea is that these notes should supplement the continuing daily coverage of money stories on the Money website, together with reprints of articles from The Sunday Times and The Times and extensive archiving.
