A PART-TIME bikini model was fined £200 yesterday after she was caught using both hands to apply make-up while driving.

Donna Maddock, 22, of Mold, North Wales, was videotaped by police holding her eyeliner in one hand and a compact in the other as she passed an accident blackspot behind the wheel of her Vauxhall Astra. Police said after the case that her behaviour “beggared belief”.

Ian Evans, for the prosecution, told magistrates in Pwllheli: “Maddock was doing 32mph in a 40mph zone and she did not have her hands on the steering wheel, nor was she looking where she was going. She has what appears to be an eyebrow pencil in her right hand, applying it to her eyebrows, and in the other hand what appears to be some sort of compact or mirror which she was looking into.”

He added: “The car was steering itself. She was doing 32mph more than she should have been doing. You hear jokes about motorists holding up traffic when they are putting on their make-up or adjusting their hair. This is a far more serious case than that. Such actions are dangerous and can lead to serious accidents.”

Maddock, who pleaded guilty to careless driving, had her licence endorsed with six points. She had appeared in court the previous week on a separate charge of drink-driving and had been disqualified for 20 months.

Her mother, Linda Williams, said: “Donna has learnt her lesson but she is the kind of woman who likes to look good. She was on her way to see friends for a day out.”
