It's time to think about packing Christmas away for another year: you've eaten the turkey, opened all your presents, and the Christmas tree is starting to wilt.
But before you reach for the bin bag check out your council's plans for Christmas waste this year and see where you can have your tree pulped, your cards recycled and your wrapping paper reused.

I use the branches ( I have no space for a tree, just branches) to protect my balcony plants from the worst of the cold. I take the twigs away when the last frost has been and gone

Glad to see the UK is incresing its efforts. When we visited The Eden project all the future inovations they showcased were things we have done for decades. We kept thinking that the recyling program was like the one we had in the 70s.
We put composte and recyle 80% of Halifax N.S. waste.

Here Xmas trees are often taken and put in ponds and lakes to create safe nesting areas for fish. The tree decomposses, but in the process affords fish the safety of camaflage.

Here in Canada, recycling has been in place for years. Once a week (year-round) we leave out, in a green box, paper, plastic, cans and bottles. Christmas trees are left out from January 17th, collected and pulped. I am sorry to say that, as far as recycling goes, the UK is a third-world country.

The Xmas tree, put it back in the box.
