Two squats where violent protesters are believed to have been staying were raided by police today.
One of the addresses had been used by an investment firm and was taken over by squatters on Tuesday morning. Officers went to the address then and arrested three men who had tried to get in.
One was arrested on suspicion of carrying a bladed article while another is alleged to have spat at a policewoman.
As the arrests were carried out squatters leant out of windows shouting at the police below.
Today police in riot gear went into the two buildings, one in Aldgate and another near Liverpool Street.
Eighty people were detained at the addresses in East London, Scotland Yard said.
A spokesman said that officers were searching for suspects wanted in connection with “violent disorder” yesterday in the City of London and that individuals would be released if they were not “of interest” to officers.
He said: “Officers went to two addresses that police believe are being used as ’squats’ by some of those people involved in the violent disorder yesterday.
“The address in E1, has around 20 people inside it.
“They will be detained on suspicion of violent disorder but released immediately if they are not of interest to police. Officers are at the addresses acting on information about people wanted.
“The address at Earl Street, EC2, has about 60 people inside. Anyone inside will be dealt with as per Rampart Street.
“The Met will continue to investigate those who may be outstanding from the violence and disorder yesterday.
Four people were arrested at the address in Aldgate, two for violent disorder and two for possession of an offensive weapon.
