David Cameron is preparing to ditch several of his green policies after protests by Tory voters angered by the prospect of extra taxes on flights and motoring.
Instead, the Tory leader will use next week’s Conservative conference to focus on core policies such as marriage and crime.
George Osborne, the Shadow Chancellor, last night announced that unpopular proposals, including taxing people for parking at supermarkets and for taking more than one short flight a year, would be scrapped. “I know that families going to the supermarket and doing their weekly shopping do not need to be taxed,” he told The Daily Telegraph.
Mr Cameron had previously endorsed many of the green policies heralded by Zac Goldsmith, the wealthy environmental campaigner.
Mr Osborne also said that there were plans to overhaul inheritance tax and hinted that the Tories might consider reforms to stamp duty.
He described Gordon Brown as a “fake” and denied that Mr Cameron was “the heir to Blair”.

About time someone began to see a little sense -- even if it is only a chink. Global warming is a fiction and is being used by the wholly owned subsidiary of big corporations -- the UK government -- to fill not only their coffers but the treasury's too, with bogus taxes and charges.
