Boris Johnson got off on the wrong foot with staff at the Conservative Party’s headquarters after barring them from his victory party.
Tory employees were in revolt at the decision to restrict access to Mr Johnson’s party at Millbank to celebrate him winning the London mayoral election.
Only MPs, donors and a tiny number of political strategists were said to have been allowed to attend. One source said: “It is a kick in the teeth for all the workers. The party chiefs deserve a good hiding for it.”
At least one guest handed back an invitation in protest at the decision to exclude most of the people who worked around the clock to secure the win. Much of Mr Johnson’s success has been attributed to the teams who ensured that voters turned out in the London suburbs.
Mr Johnson attended the party early yesterday evening before travelling across town to City Hall.
Among those expected to attend were George Osborne, chief election strategist, and Jonathan Marland, the former Treasurer who donated to Mr Johnson’s campaign and is expected to work as an adviser in City Hall.
Nick Boles, who is handling the transition, is expected to brief the Mayor’s staff this weekend about Mr Johnson’s plans. Some of Mr Livingstone’s staff cleared their desks on Thursday.

So what did Ken do for us for the four hundred plus on my rates this year ?
Good luck Boris-- please do nothing--- and save my money.
Geoff, london,
Nobody will say it, but it was likely the smoking ban that helped oust antismoker Ken. It is the working classes of this country who smoke and vote Labour. No smoke, no vote.
Frank Davis, Exeter,
Its a tragedy for London to lose Ken. The only glimmer of hope in this is that Johnson will make such a huge mess of it all that he'll make a tory victory slightly less likely in 2010.
Apologies to the rest of the country for the international embarrassment this election and mayor will cause.
sara, london,
A breath of fresh air, blew through London today
Sweeping the cobwebs of Labour away
Turning the tide from utter dismay
To make room for, a more flamboyant display
As Brown blunders on in complete disarray
To contemplate his ever unwelcome stay
Theres hope for us all at the end of the day
With only the piper now left to pay.
mike, chi, England!
I would have been rooting for Ken Livingstone if not for his sycophantic support for Ian Blair after the murder of Jean Charles de Menezes. After that, I lost all respect I ever had for Livingstone.
