Cleverer children are more likely to vote for the Green Party or the Liberal Democrats in a general election than other parties when they become adults, research suggests. The study, by the University of Edinburgh and the UK Medical Research Council and published in the journal Intelligence, indicates that childhood IQ is as important as social class in determining political allegiance. The IQs of more than 6,000 subjects were recorded at the age of 10, before any secondary schooling. Twenty-four years later they were asked about their voting habits.

One notes the squeals from those who now suggest that voting Green or Libdem is not good sense or that the research is flawed and the reasons they give prove their poverty of judgment though they are themselves not - er - 'astute' enough to realise it!
Noel Thompson, Mary Tavy, Devon,
Vote green and not watch Ross and Clarkson
WILLIAM, NORTHAMPTON, ENGLAND
It is not intelligent to believe... humans are causing climate change.
So, that settles it then! problem resolved!
Can't get more intelligent than knowing chemistry better than those who focus thier lives on such study.
A single person has accomplished the effort to overhaul all of modern physics!

With more than 50 years teaching in Elementary schools and visiting classes in Latin America, my conclusion and I apply this to "Voting Green" is that "average children" show MUCH more COMMON SENSE!
J, Jacklin, N. Vancouver,
As a Green this reads good to me. I have been consistently pleased by the party's policies and although not direct, perhaps 'Well-read' is linked to IQ for some.
William - just in case you are referring to 'throw away votes', I do not believe there is such a thing in a democracy.
Richard Atkins, London, UK
It is not intelligent to believe green propaganda including that humans are causing climate change. The research methodology for this study is clearly fatally flawed.
SMITH, Kent,
<<< Not that clever then... once they grow up I suspect the views of many of them will change. >>>
The intelligence was measured as a child & the voting was measured as an adult
alan, edinburgh, uk
Not that clever then... once they grow up I suspect the views of many of them will change. Real life has a habit of denting childhood optimism and idealism.
Andrew Brown, derby, UK
Voting green or lib dem? Not that clever then...
