Third Tory female faces deselection

THE Conservatives are facing the third sacking of a female candidate tonight, leading to more claims that the party is institutionally sexist.

Anne Jobson, a leading barrister, has been the candidate for Chatham and Aylesford in Kent for more than a year, but her future is to be debated at a meeting of her local Conservative association.

Mrs Jobson said that she would not go quietly: “I intend to fight. I will not resign.”

The move to deselect her comes after the sacking of Sue Catling, the Tory candidate in the Calder Valley. Mrs Catling said that she was the victim of a sexist witch hunt by the “the sad, the mad and the bad”. Last month, Rachael Lake was deselected by Conservatives in Cleethorpes and Amanda Harland resigned as the party’s candidate for Colne Valley.
