Q My son bought his sister a digital photo frame, but it only takes SD/MMC cards and her camera uses the xD format. Is there any kind of converter available?
Jim Porteous via e-mail
A The only direct adaptors available convert from xD memory cards to Compact Flash or SmartMedia. A better option is to transfer the pictures to a computer using a USB memory card reader such as this Lexar (£12 from tinyurl.com/2hanh2) and then save them onto an SD/MMC card. You can also improve the quality of your photos with editing en route.
Q Several e-mails I’ve sent have not arrived. No one seems to be able to help. Can you?
Richard Pope, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire
A The e-mail infrastructure is struggling. Too many messages, large attachments and the mountain of spam have brought it to its knees. The failure to deliver you mention could be due to e-mails getting caught in a spam filter or a gateway that is refusing them from your particular service. Try another e-mail provider to see if this avoids the blockage.

Yes if you buy a 17 in 1 adapator from www.digitalframedirect.com they have one for under £10 http://www.digitalframesdirect.com/digital_photo_frame_usb_multi_card_reader/ then you can transfer data from an XD card to any other memory card.
There is a major problem with XD cards that most people are not aware of. The owners of the IP for XD cards insist on a royalty being paid for any device manufacturered to accept an XD card. This means that the manufacturers of digital photo frames have to either make a choice of paying the royalty or not accepting XD cards. This approach has meant that the XD card had totally lost the race with the SD card and is now the Betamax video tape equivalent of the memory card formats.
www.digitalframesdirect.com are the leading retailer of digital photo frames in the UK and their 7" Crystal Clear frame is one of the very few on the marke tto accept XD cards
