Some are obviously considered and careful pieces of art revealing the hidden talents of some famous celebrities while others are more like psychedelic doodles.
A host of international celebrities have added their own distinctive take to a template of a dog, named Boil, drawn by a five-year-old boy.
The stars are all friends or clients of Simon Freedman, an osteopath in Central London, and when they saw his stepson’s drawing in his office, with ones that the boy’s sisters had coloured in, they all wanted a go.
After several requests, Mr Freedman decided to get out his little black book and get more celebrities involved. He transferred a hundred of the templates of Boil on to canvas and sent them off.
Moby added little aliens and mountains to his canvas while Ruby Wax included a mouse. Gary Rhodes’s masterpiece is more traditional and has a football theme, with the dog wearing the No 7 of Manchester United. The photographer Rankin has taken a literal approach.
Works are also expected from Kylie Minogue, Damien Hirst and Pelé.
Members of the public can put in sealed bids for any of the pieces, all of which will be exhibited at The Hospital, Covent Garden, London, from January 26 to February 7.
Sotheby’s will then auction ten of the best. All the bids are expected to raise more than £300,000 for Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children.
Jensen, now 6, who drew the original, thinks that it’s the best dog picture he has ever drawn. “It only took me a minute.”
Mr Freedman said that it all happened by accident. “We put Jensen’s drawing on to canvas and then my other children wanted to draw one in. They all had a go and I put the finished works on my walls.”
He said that some of his clients were intrigued by the drawings and decided they wanted to have a go too. “It snowballed from there. People’s characters and ideas come out in their canvases and it’s a constant delight when we get them back. It is adults interpreting a child’s drawing. The most important thing is how much fun everyone seems to have had.”
