'Now life is twice as much fun'

Patrick Leadsom still remembers the row on the stairs that brought to an end his parents’ marriage six years ago. He and his brother, Johnny, firmly believe that life is much better now that their mother and father are no longer together.

They live with their mother, Camilla, during the week and see their father, Jeremy, on alternate weekends. School holidays are shared.

“I remember being sad when Mummy told me Daddy had left home,” said Patrick, 10. “But we now see lots of both of them now and they don’t argue any more. Daddy lives near by and he takes us to the Lake District and Portugal in the summer holidays. Mummy takes us to Devon.”

Johnny, 8, said that life was twice as much fun with two different houses to stay at. “Mummy and Daddy are both great fun. Sometimes when my brother and I are having fun with my Daddy I feel sad that Mummy isn’t there to join in.”

Both boys agree that the end of arguments is the best thing about the divorce.

Mrs Leadsom, 42, believes that the lack of bitterness over the divorce and good communication with her ex-husband has resulted in a situation in which everyone is better off. “What is important is agreeing on how we bring the boys up,” she said.
