The First Letter, released March 29:
Dear Mum & Dad,
I am writing to you from Iran where I am being held. I will try to explain to you the best what has happened. We were out in the boats when we were arrested by Iranian forces as we had apparently gone into Iranian waters.
I wish we hadn’t because then I would be home with you all right now.
I’m so sorry we did because I know we wouldn’t be here now if we hadn’t. I want you all to know that I am well and safe. I am being well looked after, I am fed three meals a day and I’m in constant supply of fluids.
The people are friendly and hospitable, very compassionate and warm. I have written a letter to the Iranian people to apologise for us entering into their waters.
Please don’t worry about me. I’m staying strong. Hopefully it won’t be long till I’m home to get ready for Molly’s birthday party and with a present from the Iranian people.
Look after everyone for me, especially Adam and Molly, I love you all more than you will ever know.
All my my love,
Faye xxxxxxxxxxxxx
The Second Letter, released March 30:
Representative of the House of Commons.
I am writing to inform you of my situation. I am a British Serviceperson currently being held in Iran.
I would like you to know of the treatment I have received whilst here. The Iranian people are kind, considerate, warm, compassionate and very hospitable. They have brought me no harm, but have looked after me well. I have been fed, clothed and well cared for.
Unfortunately during the course of our mission we entered into Iranian waters. Even through our wrongdoing, they have still treated us well and humanely, which I am and always will be eternally grateful.
I ask the representatives of the House of Commons after the government had promised that this type of incident would not happen again why have they let this occur and why has the government not been questioned over this? Isn’t it time for us to start withdrawing our forces from Iraq and let them determine their own future?
Faye Turney, 27/03/07
The Third Letter, released March 30:
To British People
I am writing to you as a British service person who has been sent to Iraq, sacrificed due to the intervening policies of the Bush and Blair governments.
We were arrested after entering Iranian waters by the Iranian forces. For this, I am deeply sorry. I understand that this has caused even more distrust for the people of Iran and the whole area in the British (sic).
The Iranian people have treated me well and have proved themselves to be caring, compassionate, hospitable and friendly. For this I am thankful.
I believe that for our countries to move forward we need to start withdrawing our forces from Iraq and leave the people of Iraq to start re-building their lives. I have written a letter to the people of Iran apologising for our actions.
Whereas we hear and see on the news the way prisoners were treated in Abo-Ghrayb (sic) and other Iraqi jails by British and American personnel, I have received total respect and faced no harm.
It is now our time to ask our government to make a change to its oppressive behaviour towards other people.”

I believe that Faye didn't write this under duress, she only expressed her real feelings about war in Iraq, and for once she can stand up and speak to the whole world, Iran gave her a wide forum. You can be a patriot and do not support unfairness of the decisions of Blair's government which went to war in Iraq on untrue pretexts, killing thousands innocent people women, children .. I think that most of the soldiers in Iraq think the same way risking their lives for the interest of bush administration.
Jacques, Paris, France
I don't thnink Blair should apologize. Fact is, the Iranians crossed the line by basically kidnapping these British soldiers. The letter is clearly written under duress, and I question the authenticity of the fact that any of the three were even written by the actual British soldier as Iran claims. It is unbelievable that any country, in the interest of promoting peace, would have the gall to do such a blatant act of, dare I say it, terrorism. Now, while I do not support Bush or the war itself, the Iranians have crossed the line, and I for one hope Britian will not back down in the face of this unbridled cross of the lines of diplomacy. The charge of any government above all is to protect their people. It is time for Britian to stop hiding and discusing apologies, and go in and bring their people home safe. If Iran wants to start a conflict, they should be answered with a strong, united front that refuses to back down.

I do hope they all return to their families safely and very soon. I do not think that the British or any government should negotiate with these Iranian terrorists but I pray for the return of the brave soldiers.

Certainly written under duress since this military person was engaged in something she believed in and would have done so for her country. While we do not think the presence in the Midle East is justified, we also do not think the British are correct in saying the boat was not in Iranian waters. This may be the catalyst for Blair et al to escalate the situation. An apology may be the best way to re-establish the "peace" but we do not think that is Blair's strongest point, apologizing.

These certainly don't sound authentic to me...
Dan, London, UK
She may have written the actual words, but just a cursory glance at the language and style used make it glaringly obvious that Faye Turney was either dictated to word for word or someone else wrote it. Any one in Britain would point out that the language isn't quite right.
On top of that no British service person, I'm quite sure, would write these letters under duress. I shudder to think what that duress might be. If it is anywhere near torture, mental or physical, I would urge our government not to be so passive, large as the odds against us are. We have to get some leverage to save them.
Eric Sukumaran, Philadelphia PA, USA
I don't think it's a question of "her" being right or not- she's almost certainly being told exactly what to write in these letters, under threat of... who knows.
V Armstrong (Dr), Antwerp, Belgium
Why do you even bother to publish this trash, that is what the monsterts in Iran wants done. Just ignore what comes out from there.
Faqi, London, UK
I'd say the only diffeence between the North Vietnamese prison propagandists and the Iranian Prison Propogandists is that the Vietnamese were much, much shorter. Keep the faith, Faye. God has a long memory.
Barry Marks, Amissville, Virginia, USA
She is right though. We should treat Iraqi prisoners with respect. Not like we treated Baha Musa. She is also right about the presence of troops in Iraq. When one in five children in Scotland are in poverty we cannot afford these expensive wars.
