Mohammed Asha, the doctor who was arrested on the M6 after a failed car bomb attack on a London nightclub, has today been charged with conspiracy to cause explosions.
Dr Asha, 26, is accused of conspiring with Bilal Abdullah, Kafeel Ahmed and “others unknown” over the bomb that was defused outside the Tiger Tiger club in Piccadilly. He remains in custody at Paddington Green police station and will appear at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court tomorrow at 10am.
The charge reads: “That on diverse dates between 1st day of January 2007 and 1st day of July 2007 within the jurisdiction of the Central Criminal Court, (you) unlawfully and maliciously conspired with Bilal Abdullah, Kafeel Ahmed and others unknown to cause explosions of a nature likely to endanger life or cause serious injury to property in the United Kingdom. Contrary to Section 3(1)(a) of the Explosive Substances Act 1883.”
Police have previously released Dr Asha's wife, Marwa, 27, who was arrested with her husband in Cheshire on June 30.
The doctor is the fourth man to be charged in connection with the failed attacks in Glasgow and the capital.
Dr Sabeel Ahmed, 26, has been charged with possession of information which could have prevented an act of terrorism. The doctor, from Bangalore, India, was arrested in the Lime Street area of Liverpool on June 30. He worked at Halton Hospital in Runcorn, Cheshire.
Bilal Abdullah, who was arrested at Glasgow airport after the Jeep he was riding in rammed into a terminal building was charged on July 6 with conspiring to cause explosions.
An Indian doctor has appeared in an Australian court in connection with the incidents. Mohammed Haneef, 27, appeared at Brisbane Magistrates' Court charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation. Mr Haneef was arrested on July 2 as he tried to leave Brisbane for India, saying that he was visiting his wife and new-born baby daughter. He is currently seeking bail.
Also under police guard is Kafeel Ahmed, 27, who was arrested after a flaming Jeep was driven at Glasgow Airport. He is being treated for burns and is in a critical condition in hospital.

Err, Mohammed Haneef was released from court with bail as the judge said there was insufficient evidence. The Australian gov shamefully chose to put him in an immigration center and deport him even if he is found to have nothing to do with terrorism, only to score cheap political points. What has happened to your standard of reporting!
