Scout jamboree's 13 misssing visitors

CHELMSFORD Twelve teenagers and one adult who visited Britain to attend the World Scout Jamboree have disappeared.

The missing people, aged from 12 to 24, were supposed to join 40,000 other scouts at a huge camp site in Chelmsford, Essex, to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the global movement.

But nine young people from Bangladesh and Uganda who flew to this country never arrived at the campsite. Another four from Sri Lanka and Nigeria vanished during the course of the ten-day jamboree, which finished on Tuesday.

Essex police said that no offences had been committed and there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding the disappearances. A spokesman said: “It might be they have gone off to see other things in Britain, like going into London rather than being at the Scout jamboree.

“Equally it might be they are intending not to go back. We cannot rule out the fact they might have come here to start a new life and want to stay.” They were all in Britain on visitors’ visas.
