Sandhurst fall cadet speaks to detectives
Police have now spoken to the army officer cadet who fell from a third-floor window at Sandhurst Royal Military Academy. But she is unlikely to be interviewed properly for a few days, a Ministry of Defence Police spokesman said.
Amii Calway, 22, is recovering from serious head and internal injuries after she was found covered in shattered glass outside an academy building in the early hours of Thursday.
She is expected to make a full recovery.
A 25-year-old serviceman, who MoD police said was not David Freeman, her boyfriend, was arrested on Thursday at Sandhurst. He has been released on police bail without charge after questioning.
Tributes for Wilson
The music world has paid tribute to Tony Wilson, 57, who died on Friday. The broadcaster and founder of Factory Records was behind the Manchester bands New Order and Happy Mondays. Peter Hook, the New Order bassist, said he felt lost and that it was “like my father dying all over again”.
Public sector assaults
Almost 100,000 public sector workers were assaulted last year, equivalent to 275 a day, according to figures obtained by the Conservatives. There were about 60,000 assaults on NHS staff and 20,000 on teachers. David Davis, the Shadow Home Secretary, said: “Under Labour, violent crime has doubled.”
Intruder death case
Patrick Walsh, 56, who was arrested after the death of a suspected burglar in a fall from a window of his fourth-floor flat in South Manchester, will have no further action taken against him. Police said that “following an exchange of words” the suspect fell from the window on to the pavement. He died in hospital.
