The man, the films, those blondes. Free DVD collection starting this Sunday

Hundreds of Manchester’s most famous residents gathered today for the funeral of Tony Wilson.
The music promoter and founder of Factory Records was widely credited with leading the resurgence of Manchester's music scene.
He was crucial in the birth of the early 1990s “Madchester” phenomenon, introducing bands such as New Order, Happy Mondays and Joy Division.
His funeral, at St Mary's Church, in the city centre, was attended by many of the artists he famously showcased at the era-defining Hacienda nightclub in Manchester. Wilson, 57, died of a heart attack on August 10.
More than 200 family members and friends packed into the church. Among the mourners at the private invitation-only service were TV presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan, former colleagues of Wilson at Granada TV, and members of two bands which the Factory Records boss launched to stardom - Happy Mondays lead singer Shaun Ryder and New Order bass guitarist Peter Hook.

I was there, during all of that. What a brilliant man. We won't see his like again too quickly. Very sad.

Goodbye, Mr WIlson.
You facilitated access to so much great music, and inspired so much more. I still remember the thrill of listening to Unknown Pleasures for the first time back in 79. Real music and real passion. Thank you.

With So It Goes we had a way in to Punk Rock on the TV. Mr. Tony annoyed us , infuriated us but gave us the chance to see our heroes on TV - we made a point of going home
from the pub to watch Tony Wilson and So It Goes in London we really enjoyed shouting at Tony. God he was so pompous !
I mourn his loss. He was really something special.
I send lots of love to his friends and family

"So it goes" was the best music show on the box in the late seventies â I just wish I could find my cassette copies of some of the shows
