Mike Tomlinson, Jane's husband, and their children Suzanne, Rebecca, and Steven:
“We are, as a family, heartbroken at this loss but we know this extends to all her family and friends. Jane has always said her family has been the greatest joy in life and we feel honoured to have been blessed with such a wonderful person.
“The weight of this burden has been immense on all of us but, primarily, Jane. We hope that she is now at peace from the pain that has accompanied her for so long.”
Gordon Brown, Prime Minister:
“The whole country will be greatly saddened by the death of Jane Tomlinson and our thoughts are with her husband, her three children and all her family and friends.
“Jane’s mission in life was a simple one: to make the most of every day and to help others, and she not only achieved that several times over, but inspired millions of others along the way.
“She fought cancer for seven years and raised £1.7 million for cancer charities.
“We will remember her amazing spirit and strength and that exceptional charity work, and she will be a daily inspiration to our generation to fight on against the terrible scourge of cancer.”
Rt Rev Arthur Roche, the Bishop of Leeds:
“She was a bright beam of light in the midst of a darkness that can so often accompany terminal illness.
“She fought a very brave fight, of Olympian proportions, right to the end of her earthly life and has left us a legacy of courage when faced with difficulty; of striving for others despite one’s own important needs.
“She will be remembered not only for her courage and faith, but also for her vitality, her love of life and of her family, of endurance against all the odds and, in the midst of it all, a very endearing smile.”

I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2006 and following surgery and radiotherapy read Jane & Mike's book; this was sad but at the same time so totally inspiring. Jane was a hero to me and (although I'm 60) I thought I must do something positive so I put on my trainers and in March did a 5 mile walk, followed by the half moon (13 mls) in May and another 6 mile walk in August. I am half way through reading their second book "You can't take it with you" and whilst on holiday this year was to hear that Jane had passed away. I felt as if I had lost a friend, she will always be a a huge inspiration to me and I will never forget all that she has done to raise awareness and lots of money for future generations. Mike and the children, you were blessed with a wonderful Wife and Mother - may God bless you all. With heartfelt sympathy Barbara urquhart.

Jane was an amasing person with strength and courage that should inspire us all. I lost my wife to breast cancer in feb2003 and lost my daughter to cancer in feb of this year. I feel honoured and priveleged to have been a part of their lifes and I am sure Jane's husband will feel the same.
I am sure many cancer sufferers will be thankfull for what Jane has done in her life towards raising awareness to cancer and I think the goverment should take her leed and contribute more to find a cure for this devasting illness.
Graham Hall, grimsby,
35 years ago my mother died of breast cancer, i was14. her main hope was that by the time Igrew up there would be a cure, clearly we're nowhere near a cure. Mr Brown expressed his admiration of Jane Tomlinson, I'd suggest the Governement should put its money where its mouth is, it contributes a pittance to cancer research, a disease killing thousands of people in this country every week. For example the estimated cost of a full DNA database the govt wants to set up, is £700 million, its contribution to cancer reasearch is £80 million. The cost of Iraque runs to billions. We need money Mr Brown not sympathy, so that perhaps when Ms Tomlinson's children are older we will indeed have a cure, and young people will not lose their parents at far too young an age.
Without peopel like Jane and others who contribute and fight this disease, I doubt that we would have made even the small advances we have, and that is an unacceptable situation in relation to a disease killing so many people.

I never met jane Tomlinson but followed her triumphs thro the last years of her brave life with pride. She focused the world on her illness and raised awareness of it in all of us. Yesterday I watched, on TV, Jerry Lewis, in one day, raise over $60 million for MD ...and asked myself the question: " Why?...why should a hero like Jane (and jerry lewis who suffers terribly with his own illness) have to run marathons etc to raise money when billions of $$$'s are being spent on trivial goverment funded projects. Jane should have had the comfort of her family and friends in her terminal years ...not subsidising lame goverments with with misguided ideals. Why should uK hospitals have to run bingo games and run charity shops to gain cash to buy a scanner or much needed piece of life saving equipment to save lives or further research. My thoughts go to a brave jane.

Jane was a truly inspirational woman and I hope the wicked people that made the terrible telephone calls to her doubting her illness are struggling to live with themselves now as having family that have struggled with the illness it certainly was no easy ride doing all that she had done. My thoughts are with all the family and may she now be at peace and free from the pain.

When i heard that Janes had sadly passed away it was a great shock. Jane had done so much and had put her illness to a side an decided not to dwell on it, she did this so much that a lot of people came to believe she was invincible. But sadly as we all know this is not the case. Jane was such an inspiration not only by giving hope to cancer sufferers but to people without the dreadful illness to show us that life is for living and not for dwelling on what we have or haven't got. My thoughts are with Tomlison family at this very sad time, they must be so extremely proud to have meant so very much to Jane. I followed Jane through every step of her fight. Thanks Jane for showing me the true meaning of what life is and giving me the courage to do so much more with my life
May you rest in peace Jane.
Danielle, west yorkshire,
I was feeling quite down when my nearest and dearest gave me jane Tomlinsons name to look up on the internet.
My god she will always be an inspiration to life, I was diagnosed with hodgkin lyphoma lymp cancer in 2001 ,chemo and radiation okay now , but suffering with other ailments, In 2003 my huband was operated on his lungs for neoendocrine lump , it was removed.
We have four children which have been our goal and strengh in our lives ,
But i feel as if we have not lived life for anyone then our children and family,Jane lived for everybody and made her last days special for others, total strangers.
May god give her peace and may her family be proud and hold up their heads high their wife and mother is within them and she has received blessings from millions.'
God bless you all.

Jane truly was an inspirational woman and her family must be so, so proud of her. I'm not a religious person, but as far as I can see, there is no way that someone with so much life and energy can just disappear - she'll still be there, watching over her loved ones, supporting others in their own trialling times and snapping at the heels of all the charity runners at each London Marathon from now on! What a fantastic woman, she really led by example - I never knew her, but I'll miss her.
Emma Duffield, Burford, UK
Thank you Jane for showing us how to have courage no matter what. My thoughts are with the family at this diffcult time

Fly, fly little wing
Fly beyond imagining
The softest cloud, the whitest dove
Upon the wind of heaven's love
Past the planets and the stars
Leave this lonely world of ours
Escape the sorrow and the pain
And fly again
Fly, fly precious one
Your endless journey has begun
Take your gentle happiness
Far too beautiful for this
Cross over to the other shore
There is peace forevermore
But hold this mem'ry bittersweet
Until we meet
Fly, fly do not fear
Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear
Your heart is pure, your soul is free
Be on your way, don't wait
nite nite Jane

In any life which becomes "high-profile" you will find criitics and supporters. At least there are those who try to contribute to others. This woman was one of them. We cannot know her private life. Her husband and children are left to speak for her.

What a sad time for all of us. You would have to be inhuman not to be moved and inspired by Jane Tomlinson. The world has lost a great light. May god give her peace and her family strength to carry on without her.
Jan , Nottinghamshire,
Jane Tomlinson was an inspiration to us all, and made us realise that things we worried about were not so bad, if we could do a fraction of what she did for charity the world would be a much better place, my sympathy go to all her friends and family. She was a wonderfull person.

I am weeping now - but not with despair.
Jane has given so many people hope, encouragement and indeed true inspiration to mentally and physically overcome the initial prognosis.
I have received so much from her. . . . such a detrermined and committed person.
My husband is currently recovering from a total laryngectomy and all that entails.
But,I do take such hope from Jane
May she rest in peace - after a long fought journey

Testament to a brave and wonderful Woman who's death was headline news.
I read her books watched her documentaries and admired her so much.
Your Wife, mother, daughter, friend and mentor gave me the greatest hope when I myself was diagnosed with Lymphoma and given a very slim chance of survival.
She has left a wonderful legacy to all cancer sufferers and I hope you will all take great strength from this. She will be sadly missed.
Take strength from how many people, faced with her burden would have laid down and given in.
Heaven needed a special star and they now have one.
God Bless You all
