The voice, gentle but clear, has a mesmeric quality to it and as he recites verses of the Koran in Arabic they gain a hypnotic, captivating beauty.
Then Riyadh ul Haq translates the words into English and delivers his own interpretation of the holy text, and what sounded so lyrical becomes a stark manifesto of separationist loathing.
His target is the kuffar, the nonMuslim, whether Jewish, Christian, Hindu or atheist, and the message is simple: their designs are evil, their ways corrupting. Stay away from them.
Mr ul Haq, 36, who is charismatic, intelligent and British, seems to share Osama bin Laden’s stated conviction that America and its allies are seeking to destroy Islam. Both men regard this as the fulfilment of a prophecy made by the Prophet Muhammad, and both find justification in the Koran for the use of militant jihad to attack and kill those nonbelievers who have incurred Allah’s displeasure.
Each preaches the glories of martyrdom, yet while bin Laden hides somewhere near the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, Mr ul Haq lives in Leicester and is fêted internationally as a leading scholar of Islam. His views would be cause enough for concern were he merely a maverick cleric with a small group of followers whose austere, rejectionist agenda was isolated from mainstream Islamic thought.
When Mr ul Haq speaks of his contempt for British ways and Western values, however, it carries the authority of the ultra-conservative Islamic movement whose views are preached in hundreds of mosques and madrassas in Britain. The Deobandis run more than 600 of the 1,300 mosques in Britain and their seminaries – known as darul uloom – produce the vast majority of British-trained Islamic clerics.
Walk into a British mosque, particularly outside London, and the chances are that it is the voice of Deoband that you will hear.
Sheikh Abu Yusuf Riyadh ul Haq, to give him his full title, travels the world to speak and lecture, often to audiences of young people, and his books and sermons are sold widely.
Many can be downloaded from the internet. Most offer guidance on the practice and beliefs of Islam. They carry no overt political agenda and are said to display an impressive range and depth of scholarship. Mr ul Haq displays a deep love and respect for his fellow Muslims. It is when he chooses to talk about nonMuslims – and offers his analysis of world events – that the anger erupts.
To feel outrage at the global suffering of innocents in Muslim countries is not, of course, the preserve of any particular Islamic movement. The sense of injustice is shared by many nonMuslims. For Mr ul Haq, however, the narrative that leads from Bosnia, Chechnya and Kashmir to Iraq, Afghanistan and Israel-West Bank carries an apocalyptic theme.
His message is that although Allah created his religion to reign supreme, Muhammad cautioned that a time would come when “different nations will invite one another against you, just as people seated around a platter of food invite one another to consume that food”.
And so it has come to pass. The demonic powers of the West have joined together in a concerted, potentially genocidal mission to humiliate, murder, rape and pillage Muslim lands and people. Their target is Islam.
Muslims have become weak because they have developed “the love of life and the dislike of death”. Their faith is being tested and for Islam to prevail the believer must be willing, even eager, to sacrifice his life “in the way of Allah”. Muslims are living in that era “before the day of reckoning” when, as prophesied, “the truthful will be rejected and the liar will be believed”. In this time of darkness, “adhering to the fundamentals of Islam . . . is considered extremism and the struggle against oppression is called terrorism”.
“Nobody should be able to tell us what moderation is and what extremism is. One man’s poison is another man’s medicine,” he said in a sermon last year.
In one talk, Mr ul Haq tells British Muslims that he is “not suggesting that we should rise here – I’m sure we are all sensible enough to know that”. He also pledges that “we will not endanger the life of any innocent person”.
A sermon about Israel, however, prompts cries of “Allahu akbar!” [God is greater] from the congregation when Mr ul Haq calls on them to “be willing to sacrifice anything that may be required of us”. The al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem must be liberated and “we are willing to die in the process”. When called upon, “we will consider it an honour and a privilege to shed our blood”. Ultimately, Allah has promised that Islam will “prevail over all other religions, even though the disbelivers may dislike it”. Mr ul Haq says: “Do not despair. Victory is ours. It’s just a question of time.”
There is no room in this narrative for any criticism of those Muslims who murder fellow Muslims, nor of those Muslim governments that persecute and terrorise their nonMuslim minorities.
When he is not urging British Muslims to seek martyrdom in Muslim lands, Mr ul Haq finds time to caution them of the grave danger to their faith that is posed by living and working in the kuffar West. The Koran teaches Muslims not to follow in the footsteps of the Jews and the Christians, yet “of our own conscious choice we decide to live, act, work, behave, enjoy and play just like the kuffar”.
“Do not befriend the kuffar” was Allah’s warning to Muslims, and Muhammad instructed his companions “to distance themselves and fear this alignment with the kuffarin every way, even to the manner of dressing”.
For Mr ul Haq, everything that a Muslim does – the way he eats food, the clothes he wears, the way he parts his hair, the length of his beard – should emphasise his separateness from the nonMuslim. The Muslim should not raise his hand to greet a fellow Muslim because that is how Christians greet each other. He should not offer applause as a sign of approval or appreciation – clapping is a pagan practice.
And he should not celebrate “anyone’s birthday, Father’s Day, Mother’s Day” or the new year. “Categorically, the Prophet forbade the celebration of the new year.”
The nightmare prospect for Islam in Britain is that Muslims will be influenced by these ways and habits – “this culture, this evil influence” – of the kuffar. Muslims should beware, because “the Jews and the Christians will never be pleased with you until you follow their way . . . completely, in everything”.
Mr ul Haq was 3 when he came to Britain and 13 when he became a student at the first and most influential of Britain’s Deobandi seminaries, which opened in 1975 in a converted sanatorium in the rural hills above Bury, Greater Manchester.
For six years he studied at the feet of Yusuf Motala, a man described by one admirer as “the Pope” of Britain’s Deobandis, and he now runs an Islamic academy with branches in Leicester and Birmingham. Mr ul Haq is so highly regarded within Deobandi circles, The Timeshas learnt, that he is thought likely to succeed his spiritual mentor as the head of the Bury seminary.
Islam has no hierarchical structure. Each mosque is autonomous and the Deobandis have no official leader, but the Bury seminary is so powerful that the man who runs it is held to be the most influential Deobandi in the country.
Mr ul Haq’s status appears unaffected by an encounter with West Midlands police in 2003, when he was employed as the imam at Birmingham Central Mosque. He left the post after being arrested and questioned – but not charged – during a murder inquiry sparked by a fatal shooting in the city.
The killing followed a feud between rival factions at the mosque, whose younger, more militant members were said to be devoted to Mr ul Haq. A subsequent court case heard that tensions exploded after the decision by the imam to marry, in secret, a second wife. Further embarrassment came when he was forced to cancel a visit to Canada last summer after concerns were raised that his speeches promoted hatred of Jews, Hindus and gay people.
Yet in Britain, Mr ul Haq’s stock remains high. In January last year he was chosen to be the guest of honour at a Whitehall reception to mark Eid ul-Fitr, the Islamic holiday. The invitation, described by officials as “an unfortunate oversight”, was later withdrawn and has never been explained.

The sermons
Extracts from the preachings of Riyadh ul-Haq
On Jews “They’re all the same. The Jews don’t have to be in Israel to be like this. It doesn’t matter whether they’re in New York, Houston, St Louis, London, Birmingham, Bradford, Manchester. They’re all the same. They’ve monopolised everything: the Holocaust, God, money, interest, usury, the world economy, the media, political institutions . . . they monopolised tyranny and oppression as well. And injustice”
On New York “Jew York . . . sorry, New York . . . a slip of the tongue.”
On the Taleban “The only group of people upon the earth who are establishing the Sharia and the law of Allah” [In 2000]
“What crime has the Government of Afghanistan committed? All they have done is they have refused to hand over a person (Osama bin Laden) whose guilt is yet to be proven. Because of that crime, the entire nation is being punished. And as a result, because they strive to represent Islam, the whole of Islam is being demonised. And as a result, Muslims all over the globe are being discriminated against” [In late 2001]
On Europe “Europe has made it clear: they will not tolerate a Muslim force or power in Europe. And if it means massacring Muslims, if it means genocide, if it means a holocaust in Europe again, so be it. For this time, the target is Muslims”
On Muslims in Britain “It’s become insane that as Muslims in this country we are more concerned about the frequency of our bins being emptied than we are about Muslim women being raped, children being massacred, old men being put to death and buried alive, and entire populations being subjugated and being made victims of genocide in other parts of the world”
On Britain’s antiterror laws “Muslims are being maligned, our religious ideals and values . . . are under threat and it is naive to suggest otherwise. Read between the lines, peer beyond the spin. Laws are being introduced which . . . are targeted at Muslims. We are being discriminated against. Muslims in this country are being picked up one by one, control orders, imprisonment without trial, imprisonment on the flimsiest of excuses”
On integration “Allah has warned us in the Koran, do not befriend the kuffar [unbelievers], do not align yourselves with the kuffar”
On the threat faced by British Muslims “Winston Churchill made a very insightful comment. He said: ‘Appeasement is the policy of feeding the crocodile in the hope that it will eat you last’. As Muslims today, we think it’s OK, things can happen to Muslims elsewhere, but what will happen when there is no one else to devour? We will be the next meal”
On jihad “The moment we say something, we are branded fanatics, terrorists, extremists. And no one dare utter the J-word. The J-word has become taboo. The J-word can never be mentioned and if someone mentions it even Muslims look at one another. So much is happening and yet we are expected to remain silent”
On Islam’s ultimate triumph “Allah has promised. It is he who has sent his Messenger [Muhammad] with the religion of truth so that it may prevail over all other religions, even though the disbelievers may dislike it, even though the mushrikin [the idolaters] may dislike it. Allah has promised that victory will be for the believers. But we will be tested in the meantime”
On Israel “Oh Allah, do not let us die until our eyes are cooled with the sight of banu Israel [the children of Israel] being punished for their crimes”
On sacrifice “Trust in Allah, trust in the Prophet’s promises and his words. But not just rely on him and sit back, carrying on with our nine-to-five lives and our rat race. No, but be willing to sacrifice anything that may be required of us in the way of Allah”
On culture “Today, the culture of Coke and the Big Mac, the culture of the Americans, the culture of the Europeans, these cultures are dominant and they are all pervasive. We stand in awe of their culture and we are imitating them in everything. This culture, this evil influence, this imitation of the kuffar . . .”
On opera “In some Muslim countries . . . they have built opera houses at a cost of hundreds of millions of pounds. For what and for who? Muslims, Arabs, going to the opera to listen to a Frenchman singing in Italian? That’s the level to which we have stooped”
On Christmas “Muslims celebrating Christmas! It’s amazing. We think that it's innocent. It’s not innocent. The Christmas Eve masses held in their churches. What do they do? They take bread and they take wine in a very formal, customary way . . . They believe they are eating the flesh of Issa [Jesus]. When they drink the wine, they believe they are consuming the blood of Issa, ie the flesh and the blood of his sacrifice. Of course, it’s all mumbo-jumbo.”
If I wrote or preached what Riyadh ul Haq has done I would have the police at my door to charge me with racist behaviour and incitement to cause offence to the Muslim world. But he and others like him are permitted to preach hatred and distrust against non-Muslims with impunity.
What he and his like fail to understand is that people in England, and probably the rest of the UK, have no interest in trying to convert Muslims to our way of thinking. What Riyadh ul Haq is really afraid of is the fact that very many Muslims in this country are moving away from his bigoted thoughts in order to embrace a little of other cultures, and yet still retain their basic Muslim beliefs. Finally, does not the Koran state that tolerance should be shown to other cultures and religions? As tolerance is shown to Muslims in this country .

From the quotes that times has used this guy appears to be a Muppet.
I have read through some of the comment regarding this report and I canât believe that people actually want to the BNP their vote a party whose roots lie in racism.
Being Muslim it also makes me laugh to se that people that know nothing about the religion reading sound bites from idiot like al haq, suddenly become experts and develop a nostradamus syndrome and start to predict the future.
The majority of Muslim and this is the truth just want to work hard, earn money and live peacefully, the idiots that donât are a minority thatâs a fact.
For the record I love it in England and everything about england
Ameer, London,
Salman Rushdie did not say that people should go out and martyr themselves to protect the West or that the West should force the rest of the world, by the sword, to accept its will or to take part in Western consumerism and freedom of self-expression. Mr Rushdie wrote a book which you are free to read or not. He did not put a fatwah on someone else's life. The so called freedom of speech advocated by the so-called Muslims on these notes is nothing of the sort. It is freedom for them to denounce and terrorise and restriction of speech for anyone who dares to criticise them for it. Perhaps Islam is the religion of hypocrisy. Its much vaunted love is a one way mirror..

How sad to see a once great country become host to this kind of loony hatred and to read that this deeply unpleasant individual is described in the course of the article as "British". The time for the real British to reclaim their country, their heritage and their way of life is long overdue.
Philip Donnelly, Dublin, Ireland
This man is obviously preaching a doctrin that is designed to inflame muslim people against the west. He is a kind of 5th columnist in my opinion whose grand aim appears to be to 'defeat' the west and our way of life. I believe the full weight of the countries laws should be brought to bare on this man immediately.
Pete G, Brighton, uk
We have to thank the Labour government policies of appeasement for the unholy mess this country has become. Constantly being exhorted to 'celebrate the rich cultural diversity of multiculturalism' and immediately denounced as racists if we ever dare to challenge the veracity of this mantra, we have been swamped by a tide of evil extremists.
It is never too late to mend; we need proper leadership to deal with this growing menace. ' Action this day ' is an appropriate phrase; sadly, the current government only 'do' words - they don't 'do' action, unless it is self-serving.

Nobody will answer this question despite the fact that I have asked it over and over again. If Muslims are not allowed to smoke or drink, & they must find it offensive, why then are they prepared to sell both in their thousands of shops up and down this country?
Joan Mctigue, Middlesbrough, Cleveland
Because their not truly muslim in the sense.
For example, in Christianity and other religions of the book premarital sex is not allowed and yet how many Christians do you see living in 'sin'? It is because although they might believe in some of the teachings in Christianity they don't 'practice' their religion.
Similarly the Muslims who sell alcohol are being hypocritical and are not 'practicing'. In Islam it is not just the consumer of alcohol who will be punished but five (or 7?) groups associated with him will perish too - those who make it, those who sell, those who consume etc.
N.A, Bham,
Can any one remember what the foundation of Britian was built on?? Didn't think so. Maybe we have forgotten the Truth!
Sam, Sydney, Australia
I take exception at my religion being called mumbo jumbo, just for the record there are more catholics in this world than Muslims. If I had said Islam was mumbo jumbo we would be quelling riots now, but we have freedom of speech, well for a minority, the rest of us will just have to put up with this slaver until we get a government who will put a stop to it all.

I used to teach in the Bury area. The attitude to Jews was and is dire among some Muslims living there. Unfortunately, this antipathy has more recently spread to some of the churches in the area, so great is their desire to understand the 'other' represented by Islam.
Appeasement seems to be the order of the day in Britain, and especially in the Greater Manchester area, which includes Bury and Bolton, hotbeds of Muslim racism.
Dr. Irene Lancaster, Haifa, Israel
A lot of comments sound very worrying. We have Muslim fanatics on one side and then the BNP supporters on the other. I personally believe that religion is as disgusting in it's extreme views, regardless of which faith, as the BNP extremes. I also personally believe in no deity. There is no GOD. GET a GRIP and live life, love this life. Put aside delusions of the next. Understand difference, celebrate those and work together for a better world. Look up statistics on poverty, do something about it instead of burying your heads in books that promote ye old religions or listening to poisoned sermons inspired by mythological deities (or the rather the men that created the gods) Choose these paths or as poverty increase and social harmony declines the war for minds in Europe won't just be our minds. Reason not superstition must prevail and the reins of power must never be given to the BNP to abuse.
Mark Taylor, Brighton, England
I think for every Mosque built in Europe one shold be built in a muslim country lets really see who is tolerant here ......
Mark, dublin, ireland
This man has made these quote, whether people believe he is out to cause upset or not, the line "do not befriend the kuffar" to me suggest that Muslims should not be on Brittish soil....If the fundamental teachings of Islam say Muslims should not befriend us...they they should not be made welcome.
There is no way round it, that line appears, we are not a muslim country and therefore under their OWN LITERATURE realistically they ARE NOT WELCOME!
Herowyn Beck, Wolverhampton,
As I understand it, the reward for martyrdom is to go to the Paradise Bar & to be "looked after" there by 72 black-eyed virgins. That's a problem for any females involved, unless of course they are gay. But as for us men, whoever wanted to have 72 mother-in-laws as well!
Richard Couer-de-lion, Walsall, UK

Why is this person called British? He may have been born in Britain but his heart and mind are alien. The Duke of Wellington was born in Ireland but we don't call him Irish.
Kevin Dunn, Nedlands, WA, Australia
i have known the respected teacher over 10 years now and i have never come upon a time where he has shown to encourage the muslims of britain not to integrate with their fellow counterparts. infact he has done the opposite and has encouraged us to be part of this society and build a better britain. A britain which enjoys and is proud of its many cultures and beliefs. i have sat in these talks and i have never felt that he has caused to create divisions in society by the minority against the majority. i feel every individual should judge by their own intellect and not be controlled by a few diluted text taken out from its original meaning from the media. the media has always made unfair comments towards islam and has definitely shown to misinterpret islam in many occasions. i hope the media stops accusing the muslim individuals and the masses and starts building bridges between all faiths for a better and safer britain.
mohammed uddin, northampton,
This Haq person is inciting racial hatred against British people. If British people said these kind of things about muslims they would be arrested or at the very least get beaten up.
I don't have a problem with what or whom people believe in but if it insults, harms or even inflicts itself upon unwilling people its wrong. So what if some one doesn't believe in Allah it doesn't mean they are scum.
He has the nerve to insult more peaceful religions. What other religion says we should all go out and kill non-believers that are out of favour with their god.
If he doesn't like our culture he should go back to the middle east where he feels more at home!
Liz, Birmingham,
Why choose to live in Britain if the British are so offensive to him & their way of life so polluting? Simple. Life in Britain is better than elsewhere (the places British Muslims came from). "Let's live in the West while we talk about the virtue of separation and the virtue of Muslim only" is hypocrisy.
His opinion is that life is hard for Muslims round the world because of the West and Israel. Rubbish. Life in the West is the way it is because of long crafted structures of government & culture arising from many sources together with the mass of inidividual choices. Life in Muslim countries is so because of long crafted structures of government & culture arising from many sources together with the mass of inidividual choices. I live in freedom because countless individuals over the last few millenia refused tyranny and oligarchy, nourished (in many cases) by the ideals of Christ's sacrifice . Muslim nations cd do likewise instead of villifying others for their problems.
Tray, Nashville, Tennessee, USA
Each religion is flawed, so flawed, it is why we cannot accept one religion to run the planet, christanity has changed so much because it's absorbed so many pagan faiths, Islam can be misquoted violently for it was wrote in a time where the barbarians were everywhere, all about control and order, the deobandis are nutters.
Bailey, Banbury,
I firmly believe that the UK is indeed in a deep crisis...Would we have allowed hundreds of thousands of Nazis to live here while we were at war with Germany? I do think tolerance has gone overboard with regard to radicals who have in their own words declared war on civil and democratic societies. Has our rays of freedom so blinded us that we can no longer see the approaching darkness? I believe the UK must call to mind the lessons of the past, forget the petty arguments that shroud the real dangers ahead and stand firmly with the USA to defend a hard fought way of life we call Dignity and Freedom.
Kilroy, Belfast,
I think people should listen to the whole of his speech before commenting on any individual, Then make a clear judgement rather than just reading text from what the media has written.
You owe it to yourself, Read, listen and them make your own judgement that way no one is confused especially, the second hand and diluted text which the media has always portrayed in all matters not just this one.
Mohammed, leicester,
There really are so few differences between muslims & nonmuslims, !! in a nutshell , we do in this life , what muslims are all aspiring to do in their afterlife.
All the scorn they pour on our way of life is hypocritical, because at least we have some rules, but Muhammad has made it clear there are none in Paradise.
He didn't leave anything out in his promises.
Maggie Millington, Brittany , France
Tariq from Leicester has a very valid point and i must say that i agree with his concept of knowing everything about the man to understand his words or deeds. Tell me Tariq, how well did you lot know the Dutch film producer who produced a film mildly criticising isalm? Did you really know enogh about him before he was knocked off his bike and his throat slit?

Shiraz, Bradford, England: The one obvious fly in your ointment is the one on animal abuse in the form of halal animal cruelty. This single form of barbaric treatment of animals is a hangover from the dark ages and should have been stamped out firmly in the 50's. It was probably the first main act of appeasement, perpetrated by Politicians who unfortunately did not have the sense to foresee the pattern of the burgeoning of the islamic population within Britain.
If you cannot enviage the horror of this ritual slaughter its time you Googled it along with RSPCA, and find out why if your pet dog or cat had to be put down, that slashing its throat and leaving it to die in its own excrement is the last method you as a civilised human being would choose.
On this topic alone I will vote for ANY Political Party from the extreme Right to extreme Left who will put and end to this practice and rid our Counrty of a form of cruely more suited to the Middle Easten deserts than Great Britain.

After travelling from Uk to LA i had the opportunity to read the comments made by people from all walks in life in England and abroad. Few comments i would like to make as well as clear a few comments which have been taken way out of proportion. I have had to the oppprtunity to meet the man himself Shaykh Abu Yusuf Riyadhul Haq may Allah Bless him and keep him with us for a long time i have no other option but to describe him as a honest charismatic a man people should revear and respect . One of the comments i would like to make is any person who has heard his talks must assume that the Shaykh must have a good grade in english in fact he has no GCSE grades! Awesome! Majority of the people who have posted comments would be struggling students compared to him. Regarding the adherents of Judaism they are ILLEGALY occupying Palestinian land. Iternationally known fact. I don't understand why other people are allowed to shed there blood for there land Part 1
Muhammad, London, England
Tariq, you mention that judging someone without knowing him, or, at least, trying to find out about him is unfair. Though most people on this forum would have read al Haq's views and, more than likely, disagreed with them srongly (why else bother to contribute), I have not read any comment protesting the right of anyone to air their views whichever way they think - one of the benefits of living in a country allowing freedom of speech.
Can you honestly say that you would bother to listen to the Pope/Arch-Bishop of Canterbury (Probably got the spelling even worse) speeches, take it all in and than agree upon an informed opinion - like you expect us to do with Mr. ul Haq's views?
I think you are sincere enough to say that, like me, you wouldn't bother, unless this is your religion and you would have an obvious and real interest in the subject matter
If you agree with me, doesn't this prove that freedom of speech is an incredible right to benefit from and how privileged we are?
LH, Warminster,
The comments posted here are in the main absolutely laughable until one takes it seriously and then comes to the realisation that it actually is rather worrying. I personally have never met Shaikh Riyadh but I know others who know him and quite frankly are appalled by the spin put on his words by this so-called journalist.
Even if you refuse to accept that a spin has been put on his words surely you can see that this country no longer has "responsible journalism" instead the aim is to sell and make a profit and seemingly to generate fear. It's just rather pathetic and a sad state of affairs that some of you are so willing to accept what you read without considering possible agendas.
Those of you who criticise should actually look back on some of the comments you make yourself and see the irony there! I have never seen so much narrowminded, bigoted drivel...oh wait this is Britian isn't it? Course I have..
I just Thank God that SOMEONE is still willing to speak for Muslims
Adalat, Blackburn, UK
It's about time the British people stood up and started speaking out against the fanatics and loonie liberals that are destroying our homelands. Nick griffin of the BNP was covertly recorded speaking the truth and was dragged wrongly to the courts at the tax payers expense twice. How many clerics have spoken openly against the west time after time, inciting hatred in there rants only for the police to stand by to protect them? The religion of Islam teaches oppression and violence as it's rule and cannot hide behind the "Religion of Peace" facade any longer. The mask frequently slips these days and when it does , any credible musings from "moderate muslims" become less and less easy to believe. Imagine a britain under the rule of Islam-would the rights of women be as they are today? I think not. For anybody else ie the kuffar only pure submission or death would be an option. TO THE BRITISH PEOPLE. USE YOUR VOICE!!!!! VOTE FOR THE BRITISH NATIONAL PARTY.MAKE OUR VOICE HEARD FOR A CHANGE
Dave, Blackburn, , Lancashire, England
For all the people out there who think all muslims are the same and are against Westerners - you're off your heads. There are a lot of hardworking muslims who just want to get on with their lives and live in peace and harmony.
A lot of you fancy eating currys and other foods made and cooked by muslims. you dont mind eating the food, but you've always got something against the people who cook that same food that you 'occasionally' stomach.

OO, Lesta,
Most of the people that live off the goverment are the white english who can't be bothered to work and scam anyone and everyone. I am a muslim convert and was born in this country and been working since i was 15 and 13 years later am still working. Never lived off the government. If you guys and you know who you are are living off the government why don't you get jobs or leave the country? Didn't think so!!! Oh I have a lot of white muslim friends will they also be protected by the BNP?

Alot of the comments that have been written on this article are very unfair. People who have written we regars to this article do not know this man. So who are we to judge. I can understand that the literal meaning of these quotes taken out from these lectures can seem to be quite offensive. However not hearing the full lecture/talk and basing your opinion on the shaikh is very backward minded. When making your opinons on anyone in life, in general, you must know the character of what the person is like.

I would love Saudi Arabia, The Sheik & all Muslims so fervently in favour off his views who love living in the UK and benefiting from the free speech, NHS, state benefits (which, don't forget, they are encouraged to milk as much as they can from us, Kuffars) rather than endure the slums and poverty of Pakistan, India, North Africa etc. to all contribute some money to realise their own dream i.e. remain part of society and in a country which will tolerate their views, however outrageous to most other inhabitants, and buy a small island of the coast of Scotland or wherever. They could live beyond their wildest dreams and implement Sharia law. Who will join & how long will anyone stay? Life without music, modern clothes, constant prayer, no deodrant, shaving, strict laws may appeal to some for a while but, somehow, I can't see a line of young females in bhurkas waiting to live a life controlled by men, without prospects bar being a baby machine and slave not after growing up in the UK
LH, Warminster,
If Nick Griffin had said anything like this he would have been in court ,again , so let's have all mosque teachings translated and made public so the viel of suspicion is removed !!

I am a British Muslim & I just want a moment of your time.
Muslims are not allowed to:
- Drink alcohol
- Commit adultery
- Eat haraam food (food which has not been killed in the Islamic way)
- Lie and be false or deceive.
The list can go on.
I have many non-Muslim friends but I can't always go out with them for drink because it means going to the pub.
I can't always go for a meal because it involves eating something haraam.
I can't always spend time with them in public because the topic of conversation turns to women and what they would like to do to them (sorry for the vulgarity).
I believe that Muslims should spend time with non-Muslims, it would help to overcome some misconceptions and create respect for each other, but what we have to do is be careful not to lose our own faith.
Unfortunately British culture seems to depict 'yobism', teenage pregnancies, drunken behaviour and divorce. Not a good image in the eyes of a Muslim who believes the opposite.
Shiraz, Bradford, England
has the reporter heard any of his 400 or so sermons in regards to brotherhood unity peace love etc etc.i have heard the shaykhs many speeches.he does NOT preach hatred.

Salman Rushdie has the right in Britain to say what he likes, also he gets high level security this is called freedom of speech.
Riyadh Ul Haq has said what he likes. Its called freedom of speech.
Muslims do not like what Salman Rushdie has to say.
Non Muslims do not like what Riyadh Ul Haq has to say.
If Freedom of Speech is causing so much trouble and intensifying the relations between muslims and non muslims then why not end it.

Riyadh ul Haq is a Islamic scholar of repute. Listen to his speeches if you dare. Perhaps there is a message in his words for those who are neither deaf, dumb or blind to the truth.
Abdullah, London, United Kingdom
If you take a good look at the ''bigger picture' of what is actually happening in the UK with regards to immigration , the 'official' government view and what the people actually think and know, it is quite bazaar and bewildering. How do they remain in power? Do they rely on the votes of the very people who they encourage to come here? seems that way. If George Orwell had wrote a book depicting this very scenario, he would have been laughed out of his publishers.
You definately cannot make it up!!!!
david Williams, OLDHAM, ENGLAND (STILL) ?
Mr ul Haq is only stating what is in the Koran and the Hadiths and which is also being taught in the Islamic juris-prudence across the Middle East, so theirs no getting away with the fact that we have a problem. You see, it's the Muslim desire to impose all over the world the only religion-the only just religion- which is Islam, and suppression of all other religions in order to establish the rule of Allah over the whole planet. This is a religous duty, which binds the whole community and which the Muslim community is oblidged to impose, because they are oblidged to obey the order of Allah and this is the desire of Allah.

How on earth have we allowed this country to get in the state that it is ! The British people are leaving by the hundreds and the foreigners are coming here by the thousands. This lunitic ought to be thrown out of our country and all that follow him. Deobandis are not hard nut muslims who intend to destroy from all the deobandis i know and mr haq comments are kind a odd especially from a very highly respected islamic establishment. anyway i do think media plays a very big part in brain washing peoples minds, read the quran which ever language you want to find out about the right islam and you will find the answers to all your question.
the fanatics are from both side, the ones who interpret from islam side and the non muslims who just dont understand or read so much rubbish in the papers and seen things in the news, u cant fight fire with fire, us muslims will suffer and suffer we will co;s we have the biggest gift from god patience.

Everything that he says is the truth. He is more intelligent than most of the people i have ever met seen or heard of. He is not changing any meanings of the Qur'aan. He follows the truth and does fear the blame of the blamer.
The Prophet of Islam PBUH was sent as a warner to Humanity. They made up all sorts of lies against him. Look now, just his name is a self fulfilling prophecy. MUHAMMAD (the praised one). He is continually being praised 24 hours a day throughout the world. His name is on the tongues of millions of people worldwide and in the ears of billions on a daily basis.
Shaykh Riyaadh is bound to have accusations leveled at him because he speaks the truth and all those who do so in this day and age are tested this way. May Allah Guide all the evil doers and Strengthen Brother Riyaadh. Give him resolve and help him to continue to preach against injustice oppression and evil.

It is very strange to read comments from some Muslims here.
See the strange logic/spin. Many Muslims came to the UK on their own and many sneaked in illegally. Under these circumstances, it is these people, who are slowly becoming anti-non-Muslims. It is they, who have to understand non-Muslims.
Has Britain stopped anyone including ul Haq from leaving UK? NO. So the onus on understanding non-Muslims and adjusting to the British system and way of life is on them and not the other way around.
This attitude is also very alarming. We have to understand them and adjust to them including their very strange attitudes and behaviors. Also we should pay more and more taxes so that we can maintain many misfits among them!
The same applies to Muslims in India too. They got Pakistan. They remained in India on their own free will as they felt it is a better place. Just as in UK, they can leave to wherever they want any time.

Contrary to the opinion of Bill, Glasgow, I believe that the raw material of those people are basically the same... Therefore it is the ones that the Lib Lab Cons refer to as 'moderate muslims' that are the dangerous ones. They all have the same loathing for us as the Cleric referred to in the article. It is in the fullness of time through the ballot box that the indigenous Brits will be defeated (bourgeoning population, not the suicide bomber will be our demise). Bill it seems has the innocent complacency more often attributed to the Lemming in its rush to destruction.

well al i can say is that they got it wrong!!! if this is a man who you claim is preaching hatred what do you call salman rushdie?? he did the same and wrote against islam and muslims yet gets a mbe... we say we live in a a tolerant enviroment where freedom of speech is welcomed! but sadly these are only words!! our actions oppose that which we claim!! i believe in freedom and having a world full of peace!! but by the looks of it we contradict so much of twhat we say that world peace is just a joke!!
C. AHMED, aston,
Well said Riyadh ul Haq!!! He speaks what a large pecentage of muslims think but will not say. Ask the ordinary man or woman in the street his or her opinion on what not only clerics but ordinary so-called moderate muslims really think of White, Western Christians and it will not be too far from what this individual preaches. Too late now but just a pity that some of the politicians who envisaged, engineered and encouraged the multi-culti ideal were not more aware of the inevitable...

All this from the Religion of Peace
Wilson, Jesselton,
As a person he should be embracing all religions - After all he is living in England and should be showing gratitude for the quality of life he is leading. his opinion on war is not a great way to promote islam to non-muslim. islam teaches respect your neighbours. That would include his religious values and ideals. If he want to promote fasicst views, then go back to your home country and you will see that it is not wise to make war with non-muslims who they have made a comfortable environment in the UK. You should be working and embracing non-muslim ideals and using them to making improvements in your own home before even having this facist opinion.

Not much love for fellow human beings here then. It sounds like all Jews, Christians, Hindus and any Muslim who don't toe the Wahabist or Deobandi line are all condemned to die or be tortured for daring to disagree. So what sort of a world does Sheikh ul Haq offer us? What he is proposing sounds like a mixture of Puritanism and testosterone. How would he have women treated in his society? As property?
We keep hearing about these 'jihadists, and what they want to ban, but very little as to what positive attributes they would bring to people's lives, or what joy or anything like that. There is a lot wrong with Western society today (untrammelled greed, nihilistic violence, disrespect for others) but Sheikh ul Haq doesn't seem to offer any solutions to this other than disdain, or ultimately, brute force. It all sounds like some vision of 'do as I command or you will be exterminated'. We invented the Daleks to express that. A Creator God wouldn't allow such travesty of His creation.

Allahu Akbar! I have no dought that Islam is the right religion and the best way of life. I am sick and tired of media mis-quoting individuals and putting what they said out of context. Go listen to the whole lecture or speak to an Imam one-to-one to get the right message..........................
Bill, UK,
He can't be intelligent if he believes in a supernatural god.
And if we British are all filthy kuffars - then what is he doing here amongst us - why doesn't he go and preach back where his religion started in the middle east - certainly not in Britain.

As a long time Conservative voter I can honestly say that it is now my opinion that the BNP are the only party who will "say it as it is" and be prepared to deal with these threats; whereas the others will dance around issues and refuse to actually tackle the issues undermining this country.
Jack, Swindon,
Our European tradition allows us to analyse and search for answers with our God-given intelligence. That makes us clever and inventive (man on the moon, technology, fine writing, communications, etc.) That gives us a future.
We are allowed to create and appreciate beautiful things with our God-given senses (good music, paintings, all kinds of art). That gives us a quality of life.
Our Christian God allows forgiveness, forbids hatred and allows free will. That gives us a tolerance of others.
But our openness and friendship is being abused by those who can see no good in our world. The natural conclusion is that Islam is not very compatible with our long fought for freedoms and way of life.

The man is against everything in life. If muslims aren't meant to be scared of death, why doesn't he just put himself out of his misery and do us all a favour...

I am absolutely amazed at the ignorance and stupidity of Andrew Norton. Shaykh Riyadh ul Haq is merely exercising his right of freedom of speech and never promotes violence as you can see in his words.
It is very strange that if a non Muslims speaks of the injustices perpetrated upon the Muslims in the world - nothing is said - but no sooner does a Muslim speaks his mind suddenly he is an extremist and a renegade!
Shaykh Riyadh clearly says in one speech "We will not endanger the life of any innocent person, Muslim or non-Muslim. But we have the right to speak. And we must speak."
One more thing: Andrew Norton quotes Shaykh Riyadh as saying:
"On Israel âOh Allah, do not let us die until our eyes are cooled with the sight of banu Israel [the children of Israel] being punished for their crimesâ
This quote has been altered by Mr. Norton. The tribe was Banu Qurayza and the words were uttered 1500 years ago by Sa'ad Bin Muath.
Your real islamaphobic agenda has been exposed!

Well said Riyadh ul Haq!!! He speaks what a large percentage of muslims think but have the guile not to not say openly. Ask the ordinary Infidel (man or woman) in the street his or her opinion on what not only clerics but ordinary so-called moderate muslims really think of White, Western Christians and it will not be too far from what this individual preaches. You're probably not posting my views because you find them provocative and think they may be distressing to our Indigenous population. Does this not prove my point? Re-If you don't like our country go home. The problem is Muslims now believe that this country will one day be theirs and theirs alone. With the birth pattern of Muslims verses the Indigenous population it doesn't take a mathematician to conclude that within the next hundred years Britain will without doubt be under Islamic Rule. Ian, Wirral, UK
Look at this another way. The man is quite loopy and should be allowed to be the architect of his own demise. Just give him enough rope. More public exposure of his repulsive ideas will surely turn more ordinary muslims off than on. Perhaps even to the point where they see the need to take back control of their mosques. My own neighbours are observant muslims from Pakistan, regulary having prayer meetings etc. in the house but they also enjoy loud pop music (western and 'eastern'), the women will happily talk to me and don't ever wear headscarves and none of them have a problem shaking my hand. The message of people like Riyadh ul Haq only reaches a few. If you are a non-muslim Briton then, at a personal level, be nice to your Muslim neighbours, support them and keep doing it. Get to know them. Only by showing that everyone is welcome will we overcome the influence of these lunatics.
Bill, Glasgow, uk
PART2 Shaykh Riyadh, whom I have met on many occasions, (and I am no hardliner!) is one of the foremost, leading intellectuals within the global Muslim community and this for a reason. 99% of his lectures and area of speciality is concerned with Islamic jurisprudence and self development far from the hardliner adopted by the writer. The spin suggesting control over 600 mosques and subsequently thousands of Muslims, is just that; media spin. Is the writer suggesting that Muslims are unable to think for themselves and easily fall to the feet of scholars and accept everything said.

We can't win, can we? Whatever we (non-Muslims) say, we're condemned to be misunderstood in advance by these nutters. Why are we so afraid of a small minority of our population? Why must the voices of less than 1% shout down the rest of a populace which wants to live in peace. As a Christian, single professional woman, steeped in European culture, I feel deeply threatened by these people.
Rachel, Midlands, UK
And politicians wonder why people vote and follow the BNP, its because you let this man and those who think like him ( and its not a minority anymore ) to remain here. Its painfully clear that the Muslim people despise anything and anyone who isnt Musim, take with a pinch of salt Muslims that say this isnt true. I personally cannot wait till i have the financial chance to leave this once great land i call home, it will be sad to do so, but i believe in 15 years time this country will be over-run and Islamic States ( parts of the UK ) will have sprung up.

I used to belong to an evangelical church and his views do not differ much from theirs reggarding unbelievers and the dangers of 'contamination'. However, they didn't prach violence on the scale of Isalmic teachers. It all shows what evil is perpetuated and spread by Religion.
David Bennington, Ruislip, UK
How on earth can the Government allow such rhetoric to go unpunished and for Muslims to insult and threaten? And what would happen if an English Christian uttered such loathsome statements?
Elaine Seaman, Vienna, Austria
This stuff is actually consistent with the cultural and historic heart of Islam, heinously exemplified in Mohammed himself. This is the problem, or at least part of it. When people like him set themselves up as leaders and insist they are the true Islam, there's actually truth in that. Its the same when Pakistan Muslim "scholars" honoured Bin Laden. That is accurate "scholarship". Its not incorrect, its true.
Decent Muslims are those who follow a form of their religion diluted and moderated by Western influence. The hard core stuff, typical of hundreds of years ago and still widespread in the Middle East, is what preachers like this horrible person represents. And unfortunately, when you look at the Koran, Hadiths, and the example of Mohammed the war lord himself, you see that these attitudes do lie at the historic and cultural heart of this religion. Until this is acknowledged, that preachers like this are treated as an untypical aberration, the underlying problem won't be solved.
Joe, Manchester,
This imam is repeating the words and concepts contained in the koran and the ahadith (life, words and deeds of the warlord, Muhammad). Therefore, you delude yourselves if you believe there is a 'moderate', tolerant form of Islam. There isn't. As for "Dr Khan" comment about a terrorist war on opera, meant to be flippant, but in Pakistan anyone who plays music, shaves his beard, allows a woman to shop in the markets or watches videos has been informed he (or she) will be killed. The majority of Moslems in Britain come from Pakistan, 400,000 visit their 'home' country every year (according to govt figures) and they bring thousands of Pakistanis into Britain as brides for marriages to increase the Moslem population in Britain. This cult of Islam is therefore spreading and its message of violence is and will continue to have acceptance amongst majority of Moslems until Islam is proscribed and moslems deported. Or until civil war breaks out.

PART3 True there are things which are questionable in some comments made by the shaykh but its better QUESTIONED before judged. He has more good in him to offer than the bigotry offered by the writer whom has little knowledge of the personality or the greater works of the shaykh; incorrectly addressing him as âul- Haqâ demonstrates the writers inability and lack of knowledge of the character he so expertly defames.
Before attacking his social, personal and work life, maybe it would have been wise to have spent a day with the shaykh. Or perhaps the writerâs bent attitude towards the shaykh has led him to the above radical article. In any case, it is the usual counterproductive work, adding to the tension, fostered by the media!

Why do these people who hate the West continue to live in the West?
Moreover, you can't expect to be liked by us Kaffirs if you insist on maligning us at every turn. Enough of the whining about Islamophobia please. If you feel that Islam is getting a bad rap in the West, I would advise either getting a new speechwriter or perhaps a better PR person?

Muslims need to start thinking. These Wahhabi Deobandi fundamentalists are leading Islam to a dead end of more vitriol, more violence, more poverty, more exclusion. More confrontation.
I personally am not interested in what Mohammed thought, I don't believe his claim to be the hotline to God, I think he was a quite badly flawed human being even though he was clearly a genius. Don't jihad me into thinking otherwise, that is where the confrontation comes from. Not from anything the West has done, or not done.

Your report does not say which country provides financial support to the Deobandis. Are they Sunni Muslims, and does their support come from Saudi Arabia? There is no parallel in history where millions of people have been invited to live in Britain even though they despise British values, the majority population, and they refuse to integrate (except for taking the NHS and other benefits). Indigenous politicians have ignored the problem for decades, and their current response is one of appeasement (Cameron and Brown hope for the votes!)

He called Christianity 'mumbo-jumbo' , well that's my opinion on ALL religion .
Mark, Yorkshire,
Just wait for the usual mob of Muslim 'leaders' apologising for all this hate ridden rhetoric, accusing The Times of 'Islamophobia' for highlighting this vile and fascist sect of Islam that has infiltrated the mainstream, and best of all, saying 'It's all been taken out of context'. Britain is in a deep deep mess.
Paul Singh, London,
If Mr Al Huq really wishes for Islam to become the only religion in the world, perhaps he should take heed of another proverb - "You can catch more flies with honey ......"
The article states he is intelligent. Maybe he has the narrow intelligence associated with fanatics of all persuasions, but intelligent in a more global context - you must be joking. However, his is the 'intelligence' that goes best with his message of unremitting hatred. When you are preaching to people who want to believe that they are different, superior to those around them, it's the best sort to have. Look at the white supremacist movement - it too follows the same logic and rhetoric.
