Winnie-the-Pooh fans are campaigning to reopen the footpath leading to the bridge where the bear played “pooh sticks”.
The bridge, near Hartfield in East Sussex, in the heart of the Ashdown Forest, was made famous by author A. A. Milne when he created the character of Winnie-the-Pooh, inspired by the soft toys belonging to his son, Christopher Robin. Fans of the books, along with members of The Ramblers’ Association, protested after Faircote Stud Farm built an equestrian sand school across the path to the bridge, making it almost impossible to use.

This is an olympic sized horse riding arena, built without planning consent on a green field in the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, obstructing a formal right of way. Both East Sussex County Council who are responsible for protecting rights of way and Wealden District Council who are responsible for planning controls are considering enforcement action.

Forgive my being the stereotypical ignorant American, but just what the heck is a "sand school"?
Joseph Paulk, Tulsa, Oklahoma
Cant you just go round the sand school?
PS If it is a right of way this is not allowed and court action should be taken by the respective council.
