The risk of cancer can be cut by as much as 40% by taking more exercise and eating a diet rich in fruit and vegetables, according to a study.
The World Cancer Research Fund report, to be published this week, will urge Britons to change their lifestyles and will warn that obesity must be tackled if cancer rates are to be reduced significantly.
The study, Food, Nutrition, Physical Activity and the Prevention of Cancer, analysed more than 7,000 studies. It is expected to highlight research showing that regular exercise can cut the risk of some cancers, including those of the colon and breast, by up to 40% and that a diet rich in fruit and vegetables can help, too.
Specialists say that many people are not aware of how small changes in their lifestyle can help to beat cancer.

Lets leave propaganda and junk science out of it. There is just a casual link, and being fat is a very complicated issue. You can be fat on the outside or fat on the inside and appear to be skinny. A persons diet should be a well balanced diet of ALL foods. I would like to see a study done by persons who have NO financial, religiosity attached. In other words a study done by a completely neutral group. http://www.InteliOrg.com/ Humans are omnivores. Moderation is the healthiest way of life.

Exercise needs to be aerobic to be beneficial. Marathon running may be too strenuous.

My Mom died of colon cancer in 1991. I have been taking routine colonoscopy screening tests since I turned 40. My gastrointestinal doctor urged me to encourage my siblings to do the same. My brother lives in the UK, and I am appauled at the British Health Care system on there stance in this matter. No routine screening? He was told that without symtoms, he was not elligible for colonoscopy. By the time you have symptoms, your cancer is well advanced. Didn't your indepth studies show you that diet and excerise is a good prevention measure,, but regular screening is life saving? I urge you to ake another look at this position.

Niki, London,
I've been a marathon runner since 1979.....fruits and veggies are a regular part of my daily diet.
I was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2001 as a result of a routine colonoscopy screening test at the age of 52.
This test and surgery saved my life ,and I'm still running.....
[ Windermere mara . last May].
Best help is early discovery. I hope Brittish Public HealthCare
will cover this type of screening test for everyone over 50.
