THERE may be outward signs of age, but otherwise they are the same couple wandering arm in arm through the garden of the same house where they spent their wedding night 60 years ago.
Photographs of the Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh released today to mark their diamond wedding show them at Broadlands, the Hampshire stately home that once belonged to Earl Mountbatten, Philip’s uncle.
Other royal marriages may have crumbled around them, but the Queen, 81, and Philip, 86, are still there, striking the same pose they did for the camera in 1947.
The touch of nostalgic romance extends to the Queen wearing the same brooch as in the original. Even the necklace appears identical.
Mountbatten will loom large in the couple’s memory as they celebrate. He engineered their first meeting at Dartmouth Royal Naval College in 1939.
Soon after their marriage, Mountbatten, murdered by the IRA in 1979, lent the couple the Villa Gwardamangia outside Valletta, the capital of Malta, where Philip was serving in the navy.
The couple will visit the island on Tuesday, their 60th anniversary, in another retracing of the relatively carefree early days of their marriage. Tomorrow, a televised service of celebration will be held at Westminster Abbey.

To Sandra Lanigan of Evesham. The "Great" in Great Britain is nothing to do with the adjective relating to "Grand" or "Remarkable", it actually dates back to the Norman invasion of the 11th century and the fact that this country was a larger version of Britanny in France.

congratulation on this special day- I have admired her MAjesty the Queen since my first visit to London in 1948, her sense of duty, Pflichtbewusstsein, Korrektheit, elegance, and the uniting link she depicts for all the Commonwealth states---we have lost our monarchy in 1918, but still dignitaries or heads of state are being welcomed in old HAbsburg- royal surroundings with their beauty and splendor---- so be happy and grateful and wish them many more years together--

I fail to see why being someone's son or daughter entitles one to be head of state. There are a lot of people, who have not led pampered lives, who also stay married for 60 years. Nor do they belong to such a disfunctional famliy

Great example of love, endurance and patience...Congratulations on their "Diamond."
Portia, FL, USA/ExPat,
Both the Queen and Prince Philip are an example to all married couples , young and old, because they have weathered all the storms and difficulties of the last 60 years and proved worthy of the respect and affection of those of us who are proud to be citizens of Great Britian - in fact their lives of service to our country have helped enormously to put the "great" into Britain. May they enjoy many more years together.

`Queen and Head of the Commonwealth` for 60 years and never spoken to the public ,other than occasionally reading another person`s remarks- a remarkable feat for such an exalted position.
As she never discloses her opinions or wishes,on any matter ,it is not surprising that media guesswork is sometimes wrong.
Addressing the nation on this momentous occasion would
give an enormous confidence boost to her subjects in these
trying times.
