Cousins Nathaniel Pritchard and Kelly Stephenson have reportedly become the latest victims in a wave of suicides by young people from the Welsh town of Bridgend.
In common with most of the 14 other deaths in a cluster of apparent copycat suicides in South Wales, their pages on the social networking site Bebo were adorned with rest in peace messages and tributes by this afternoon.
South Wales police confirmed that a 15-year-old boy from Bridgend died today after harming himself on Wednesday, but have not confirmed his identity. Within hours of his attempt at suicide a 20-year-old woman, believed to be his cousin Kelly, who also lived in Bridgend, killed herself while on holiday in Folkestone, Kent.
Kent police said they had found the body of a female. “We can confirm that a 20-year-old woman, staying locally, has been found dead. Her next of kin have been informed.”
The cousins were friends on Bebo and Kelly’s profile was linked to some of the other victims of suicide in Bridgend.
On Nathaniel’s Bebo page, friends posted messages saying “RIP nathaniel boi” and “ur gunna b missed so much butt !!”.
His friends had been using the site to spread news of his health in the two days after he injured himself. One poster, claiming to be another cousin, posted a message announcing that he had died earlier today.
On a linked Bebo page, Kelly Stephenson was also mourned by friends. “Sleep tight Kel, youl be missed xx,” one wrote. Other posts on her message board read: “r.i.p babez. we will miss u!!”, “sweet dreams babe” and “rest in peace”.
On her profile she described herself as a lesbian who loved to go out and have fun with friends and play football and hockey.
South Wales police stressed tonight that they had no evidence that the latest deaths were linked to previous suicides.
“At 21.15pm on February 13, we were called to an address in the Cefn Glas area of Bridgend to a report that a 15-year-old boy had harmed himself,” a spokeswoman said.
“The 15-year-old was taken to hospital. He has since died. The coroner has been informed. The death is being investigated on behalf of the coroner. It is not believed to be suspicious.
“There is no evidence to suggest this incident is linked to any other incidents or sudden deaths in the area.”
The spate of suicides, by 16 young people aged between 15 and 27, has prompted national media interest but also great anguish in South Wales. At least seven of the previous victims are thought to have known each other.
Bridgend Council and education experts have scrambled to set up task forces and focus groups to address the problem. Some local schools set up a team of experts that included teachers, a counsellor, an educational psychiatrist and a child protection officer.
Madeleine Moon, MP for Bridgend, has pledged to take further action. "We will be rolling out suicide-intervention training into schools and colleges," she said.

This problem seens to be wider spread than Bridgend I found my 34 year old son hanging from our loft hatch recently. It seemed he had everything to live for, but todays pressures are too much. The vicar at our sons funeral on 31st March has since conducted 2 more funeral of young male suicidesWhy?

all i can say is that its giving bridgend a place on the map for all the wrong reasons. please no more its so heartbreaking for the familes.

i think that it is pathetic that you are blaming bebo for all the suicides in and around bridgend. i am from bridgend and i was friends with nathaniel pritchard and i know for a fact that he did not do this because of bebo and I dont think it is helping any of the young people in bridgend with all the media coverage either.
jess, bridgend, wales
Dis is unbelivable why people so young and with there lives a head of them dat wud take their own lifes. I am 19 and im disgusted that a wide circle of people from the same place would do this.
Caroline, Armagh, Ireland
I think it is wrong to blame bebo. Ok maybe it was linked in a way but no-one knows the ins and out of this young persons life. Even police or her own family. I think parents should sit down once a week and ask there children how its going. Althiugh they should never secretly check their bebo pgs if they have got nothing to hide they will not mind you having a look after asking them if you can do so!

its so terrible to hear of two you kids and all the others from the same area taking there lifes away at such a young age.ive recently considered taking my own life and i no how these people feel, but i got help,i went to the doctor and i was put on a nhs counciling course which helped me overcome my depression.if you feel down, talk to any1 as it helps.my thaughts are with all the familys and friends of these people who have passed.rest in peace and sleep well, god is with you.

quote-its so sad. I feel there should be an age limit on bebo just like there are on chatrooms no under 18s
maggie, saintfeild, N.Ireland
it doesnt matter if there is an age limit, all you have to do is enter a different number. Bebo is not to blame for these tragedies, it is only a website, just another way.
alex, N.Ireland,
i feel that it is wrong to blame bebo for this tragedy. it may hav linked most of the people involved but i feel that there is something much deeper to this. im just guessing here tho. what all of these people need is someone they can talk to, some one who will listen.

I was going onto Bebo when the two pictures of these children caught my eye and It is very sad when you see precious life's are taken. Our heavenly father God loves our children. There are so much forces out there in the world these days. Being a parent myself My heart goes out to all those families that are grieving over their loved ones. I pray that God will bring peace to you all in this time of crisis. Their are so many more pressures out there in the world today for our children. The bullying problem is all over the world and some bully's do not realize how much damage they can do to other people. At the end of the day children do know what is right and what is wrong and people need to be accountable for their actions. There is so many broken relationships, families broken down, alot of destruction in the world that as people we need to hold on to something and I believe that is Hope (God).
Claire, Auckland, New Zealand
It is very sad to see so many young people so very depressed that
they feel they have to commit suicide. I know this is kind of guessing, but I tend to feel that a lot of young people are damaged by the severe bullying that goes on in schools both mental and physical.

What is happening to our children?
Why are our children now committing violent crimes, murder and suicide at an unprecedented rate?
What hope are they given? What opportunities are they given?
Our boom economy has left them behind. We have been inundated with up to 800,000 migrant labour. There is no work for them, there is nothing for them to aspire to.
I have employed on the London labour market for eight years. I have seen great changes. I actively seek English labour. Why?, because I think we must look to our future.
We must remember that a high percentage of the migrant labour force is transitory. It will move elsewhere if other boom economies appear in Europe.
TB you sold out our national identity. We were only a stepping stone for your European presidency. Your statiticians estimated that only 30,000 east Europeans would arrive. I think this proves just how out of touch with the real world you are.
Shame on you sir. Look what is happening to our children.
