Take a trip to New York and see the city from the air

A design for a foldaway map inspired by a 2,000-year-old origami called the Unfolding Flower is at the centre of a High Court copyright hearing. Derek Dacey, 58, the inventor, claims that his design has been stolen. His company, Compass Maps, is challenging the owner of Berlitz travel guides over the rights to the design. Until 2005 Compass had a distribution deal with GeoCenter, part of the Langenscheidt Publishing Group, which purchased Berlitz. In April 2006 GeoCenter launched its own pop-up maps. GeoCenter and Berlitz Publishing were unavailable for comment.

I have worked personally with both Derek Dacey and Ian MacDonald and I know from experience that Derek spent a long time developing this product and was very proud of it and I know that is one of the reasons that Ian MacDonald took on the Sales & Marketing of this product...
Klarence, Basingstoke, UK
I think Mr Dacey has to be very careful. He could spend an awful lot of money persuing this through the courts and get nowhere.
Les is right - get out there and fight for sales based on product strengths such as quality, price and service.
Peter, London, UK
Surely the courts have something more important than to worry about a folding map?
We all use and take maps for granted. Another publisher cant make that much difference to sales.
What about healthy competition?

How can you claim you invented something if it is based on (or 'inspired') a prior, albeit 2000 year old, design??
