18.05 (BST) The royal couple left Windsor Castle in a convoy of cars with police outriders bound for the RAF Northolt to fly to Aberdeen for the start of their two-week honeymoon. Their car is festooned with balloons.
In Aberdeen they will be greeted by two pipers before they drive 40 miles to their retreat at Birkhall on the edge of the Balmoral estate in Royal Deeside. The Prince took over the house after the Queen Mother's death in 2002 and has frequently visited there with Camilla.
On Sunday morning they will make a public appearance after a church service on the estate, then they are expected to remain out of sight.
17.20: The ceremonies over, the royal couple joined their friends, relatives and celebrity guests at a private reception in Windsor Castle’s state apartments.
Mingling in the impressive Grand Reception Room, St George’s Hall and the Waterloo Chamber, the guests drank Duchy champagne and were offered smoked salmon on brown bread sandwiches and roast venison with Balmoral redcurrant and port jelly on white bread. as well as egg and cress granary bread sandwiches, potted shrimp bridge rolls and mini Cornish pasties. Those with a sweet tooth enjoyed miniature ice cream cornets, caramel banana slices, strawberry tartlets, glazed mocha fudge, caramelised lemon tarts and scones with Cornish clotted cream and Duchy strawberry jam.
The Prince personally ordered in 20 fruit cakes from Mrs Ethel Richardson, of Carmarthen, to add to the buffet which includes organic produce from his Duchy Originals brand.
The royal couple's wedding cake was made by Dawn Blundone and Mary Robinson who bake for the Highgrove Shop. It is a single layered square, plain white, organic rich fruit cake, with an octagon dome, a recurring 'C' motif and rose, thistle, leek and daffodil decorations at its corners. The octagon is made up of panels with different designs including the Crest of the Duchy of Cornwall and another has the Crest of the Duke of Rothesay.
The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall cut the cake using Charles’s Naval sword, originally belonging to his great grandfather, King George V, and used for investitures.
After a champagne toast, the couple were due to depart for their honeymoon in Scotland via the Castle’s Henry VIII gate at around 17.45.
Police pipers will greet them at Aberdeen Airport and airport staff will make a brief presentation before Charles and Camilla drive to the privacy of their Highland hideaway Birkhall, on the Queen’s Balmoral estate. They are due to attend church at Balmoral on Sunday .
Richard E Grant, the actor, described the occasion as "wonderful" . He said: "I think that his now wife is so firmly unneurotic and such a calm, kind, compassionate, human person that her influence will quell whatever nerves he might have. She doesn’t seem to have any lah-di-dah airs and graces."
Stephen Fry, the comedian and writer, said it had been a "rocky road" but it was "delightful" that the wedding was taking place. "She adores him and he adores her. The history has been unfortunate but the history of humanity is full of star-crossed lovers who have found life difficult," he said.
