A British army major fell to his death after losing control of his paraglider during a trip in southern Spain.
Alexander Matthew Blake, 36, died after hitting a tree at nearly 100mph in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountain range near Granada.
The accident, which took place about 6pm on Wednesday in the village of Cenes de la Vega, is thought to have happened as he attempted a spiral dive intended to lose height rapidly.
He was on a military trip at the time. Military officials are arranging to return his body to England. Local police have begun an investigation.

I'm so sorry to read this tragic news. I went to school and University with Alex and will always remember his much mentioned trade-mark smile. My heart goes out to his family, especially his Mum and Dad, who were always so kind to me.
Lots of Love

I was so shocked to hear of this having briefly met the group near the end of the stay with our host. on the Monday. Our host was vehemently safety conscious, something we have come to appreciate even more. I'm very sorry for your loss.
