A former BBC marketing strategist, she now works as international director for Hart, an overseas aid charity founded by Baroness Cox, deputy speaker of the House of Lords.
She delivered her paper as she finished two three-year terms on the Archbishops’ Council, which oversees the policy and direction of the Church of England. She was appointed to the council by the Archbishop of York, Dr David Hope, and the former Archbishop of Canterbury, the evangelical Dr George Carey. Of the nineteen council members, five are appointed.
The positions are unpaid and other council members include Anne Sloman, a retired political adviser at the BBC, and Professor Peter Toyne, former vice-chancellor of John Moores University, Liverpool, David Lammy, MP for Tottenham, is a former member.
Ms Ozanne, who once marketed products including Fairy Liquid, Kleenex and Huggies, was asked by BBC Broadcast in 1996 to help to set up a new marketing department within BBC television, where she worked with the controllers to develop and implement marketing plans for BBC One and BBC Two.
She was appointed to the Archbishops’ Council from its beginning in 1999. She has also served on various boards and councils within the Church, as a board member of Trinity Theological College, in Bristol, and of the International Centre for Reconciliation, in Coventry.
She also operates as a parliamentary lobbyist, working to bring together MPs, peers and interest groups on social issues. She convened Christian groups concerned with the Communications Bill in order to lobby the Government over the disqualification of Christians from holding broadcast licences.
As a member of the council, she was responsible for the Restoring Hope Project, an initiative backed by seven leading UK agencies in which each Anglican parish was given a video “tool kit” to help them with their mission. She is unfashionably zealous in her enthusiasm for evangelism.
