Three people – including a 60-year-old woman accused of indecent exposure – were charged today after yesterday's anti-war demonstration sparked by President Bush's visit to Westminster.
Scotland Yard made 25 arrests after 10 officers suffered minor injuries during a demonstration in Parliament Square as Mr Bush visited Downing Street.
Up to 2,500 demonstrators gathered in the square to mark the President's farewell tour of London, with around 1,200 police officers working on each day of his visit. Members of the Stop the War Coalition, CND and the British Muslim Initiative organised the rally.
A 60-year-old woman will appear before Tower Bridge magistrates on June 25 charged with indecent exposure, police said. Two men, aged 21 and 26, were charged with obstructing police and will appear before magistrates at Westminster later today.
Eleven people – two of whom were arrested for assaulting a police officer – were still being held this morning at a central London police station.
Two women and five men have been released on bail, while a man and two women arrested for breaching the peace were released after “words of advice”. A 20-year-old man accused of a public order offence was released without further action.
Today, Mr Bush visited Downing Street again for talks with Gordon Brown – and security was again tight even though no major demonstrations were planned. Laura Bush, the American First Lady, was expected to tour the British Museum, before flying off with her husband for a brief visit to Northern Ireland.
