Hull Yorkshire residents will no longer land themselves in trouble for flying their colours after a new Yorkshire flag was unfurled and registered with the UK Flag Institute.
The recognition means Yorkshire-loving folk will no longer need planning permission to fly their local emblem. The move comes after householders flying Yorkshire flags were warned against it. In one case, Ryedale Council issued a North Yorkshire farmer with a summons, but the case was dropped.
Walkers will carry the new flag to York, where it is scheduled to arrive on Friday - Yorkshire Day.

Excellent news, as a Tyke living in exile I shall be looking at procuring my own flag.
And to Andy Turner - we're glad you're 1000 miles away as well.
Ian, Rochdale, UK
Have councils got nothing better to do than issue warnings to flag-fliers and fines to smokers in their own vehicles?
Stuart, Motril, Spain
Unilateral independence next ?
Malcolm H Mills, Petersfield, UK
Tell me, Andy Turner, in what way is being proud of where you come from 'reinforce the adage that it's grim up North' ?
Also, as an aside, I'm glad you're a 1,000 miles away as well lad.
Aubrey Greenwood, Wakefield, Yorkshire
Yes we can all be proud of where we come from, but geez, what a waste of energy. Can't these people channel some of this wasted energy into help their communities...
Dave Walker, Malton, North Yorkshire, England
Exellent, its about time, Yorkshire woman through and through.
Teresa, Doncaster, England
jail all the flag carriers as a deterrent to all others who believe such dim-wit parochialism has a place in the 21st century. It just reinforces the adage that it's grim up North. Glad I'm 1000 miles away.
andy turner, Beziers, France
Must agree with you there, Aubrey - Yorkshireman first, an Englishman second. Aye, laddie, that's proper talk...
Harry Heller, Pontefract, West Yorkshire
Does that mean all counties will have the same rights? But more importantly does that mean you no longer nedd permission to fly the countries flag (Union flag/Cross of St George/Saltayre/Welsh flag [apologies to the Welsh for not knowing the true name]) without being branded racist
Paul, South Shields,
this is a damned sight better than the joke they unveiled for Gloucestershire the other month... I'd be proud to fly this one...
paulc, gloucester,
only a thick as a brick council would try to tell a yorkshireman he can,t fly the flag of yorkshire eh by gum dint thee know id take na heed.yorkshire first england a very distant second
ricey, halifax, uk
Excellent news and about time too. I'm a Yorkshireman first, an Englishman second.
Aubrey Greenwood, Wakefield, Yorkshire
Surely a flag with a pudding and perhaps a curry would have been more inclusive. ;o)
slade wallis, Retford, GREAT BRITAIN
I am suprised that this flag has been passed to fly.I mean, c'mon, its a WHITE rose & just does not reflect the multi culterism social experiment that is being forced on the country as a whole.
Pete, St Albans, England
Excellent news, my mum has been flying hers on her caravan on holiday for several years now.
