Mili-brothers band together for GQ scrutiny
The sensitive political relationship between the Miliband brothers will be probed when David and Ed submit themselves to an extensive — and no doubt stylish — profile in the November edition of GQ magazine.
Dylan Jones, the magazine’s editor, recently published a book of his interviews with David Cameron and is keen to appear even-handed for the election battle ahead. However, with Naomi Campbell, the regular GQ interviewer, unavailable, the Milibands have agreed to allow Iain Dale, the blogger and former Conservative parliamentary candidate, into their lives.
Mr Dale has been given access to private briefings with the Foreign Secretary — and to possibly less exciting meetings with Ed, Minister for the Cabinet Office. He will also quiz the younger, Brownite brother about David’s first shot in a Labour leadership battle. But, rather like
Mr & Mrs, the brothers will answer their questions separately.
Nick Clegg memorably revealed in a GQ piece that he had slept with “no more than 30 women” . Will there be similar revelations? “It’s not that kind of profile,” says Dale. “It’s more a compare-and-contrast piece.”
— Guy Ritchie rustled up a mountain of caviar, pink Krug champagne and kosher wagyu beefburgers for Madge’s 50th birthday party, but her ladyship was still not satisfied. “I’m really disappointed,” she told guests at the Volsted club.
“There are a lot of people who are not here tonight, but thanks to everyone who did make it.” It seems that Gwyneth Paltrow and Stella McCartney failed to swing by. Lourdes, Madonna’s daughter, provided the highlight by playing a song from Fame on the grand piano, while hubbie presented the singer with £250,000 worth of Bulgari jewellery and a written pledge to back her new adoption quest.
— A wise move from the organisers of Thursday’s Kerrang! Awards. Guests at metal’s Valhalla night are being asked to come clean about “any strange dietary requirements”.
Competing artistes include Dead Swans and the hotly tipped Cancer Bats. It may be best to keep Ozzy Osbourne away from the buffet.
— Sam Branson, environmentalist heir to the Virgin empire, demonstrated his enterprising way with words in the VIP area at the V Festival. Cadging a roll-up from fellow Duffy-watchers, he declared: “Never apologise for being p***ed, only apologise for being sober.” A bon mot worthy of the occasion.
— It’s Harry Potter and the Revolt of the Muggles. More than 12,000 fans have signed an online petition calling on Warner Bros to reverse its decision to move the release date for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from November to July 2009. “They are doing this for no other reason than to make more money,” argued deprived Hogwarts student Patrick Allen. “We don’t want to be pacified. We want the movie, as promised, this November.”
