Three walkers have discovered a “new” mountain in one of Britain’s beauty spots. Mynydd Graig Goch in Snowdonia, North Wales, has been upgraded after its official measurement was found to be too low. Its height had been recorded at 608 metres (1,998ft), just short of the magic 2,000ft necessary to qualify as a mountain. John Barnard, Myrddyn Phillips and Graham Jackson used satellite equipment to prove that the “hill” is actually 2,000ft 6in. Their efforts echo the 1995 film that starred Hugh Grant, The Englishman Who Went Up a Hill But Came Down a Mountain.

With global warming rising sea levels at the rate of 3mm per year and beginning to accelerate, it will soon be a hill again.
Mr G, Leeds , UK
As you in France should know, Jac, its not size that matters its what you do with it that counts ;-)
Peter, Nottingham, UK
I just have to laugh at the British definition of a mountain - ours here in the Pyrenees are not that grandiose, but at 2000-3000m, they make a mockery of calling a 610m hill a 'mountain' - we live on the plain below the Pyrenees are are at 450m on the flat!!!
Jac, Aigues-Vives, France
Yes Phill, but Peru is much more than an hours drive away from the Wirral!

I thought that Global Warming was supposed to reduce the size of hills and mountains, not increase it.
Ian Tinn, Slough, England
