A celebrity photographer who took pictures of Diana, Princess of Wales, has been ordered to pay damages to Mohamed Al Fayed.

Jason Fraser, 41, from London, was initially cleared of breaking privacy laws after he allegedly captured the Princess kissing her boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, the son of the Harrods owner, on a yacht shortly before their deaths in 1997. A court in Paris has overturned the verdict, ordered Fraser to pay Mr Fayed €5,000 (£3,000) and fined him €3,000.

Fraser said that he hoped that the latest ruling would be overturned.

Claiming that he was the victim of a “personal vendetta”, he said: “I remain confident and would expect a French supreme court to confirm my continuing faith in the common sense of the French legal system.”

In April an inquest jury returned a verdict that the Princess was unlawfully killed by the gross negligence of a drunk chauffeur in a Paris road tunnel while being pursued by paparazzi. Fraser said that he was not in Paris at that time. The car was driven by Henri Paul, one of Mr Al Fayed’s security officers.
