Mrs Quinn, the publisher of The Spectator, delivered the child by Caesarean section at St Mary’s Hospital, in Paddington, Central London.
Mr Blunkett has said that he is the father of the baby but he will have to wait until DNA tests are carried out to prove parentage. This could happen as early as the weekend.
Similar tests have already concluded that Mr Blunkett, 57, is the father of Mrs Quinn’s two-year-old son William. The former Home Secretary is currently fighting a battle for access to the child.
Mrs Quinn, 44, denied that the Sheffield MP was William’s father. She also said that Mr Blunkett did not father her new baby.
Mr Blunkett resigned from the Cabinet in December after it emerged that he had helped fast-track a visa for Mrs Quinn’s nanny, Leoncia Casalme. After weeks of insisting that there had been no wrongdoing, Mr Blunkett stepped down when he was told by Sir Alan Budd, who was investigating the visa application, of the discovery of a fax and an e-mail discussing the case of Ms Casalme that had come from Mr Blunkett’s office.
It was a blow for Tony Blair, who regarded Mr Blunkett as one of his most valuable electoral weapons and who backed him despite the reservations of colleagues.
Mr Blunkett embarked on a three-year affair with Mrs Quinn, just months after she married Stephen Quinn.
But last August, Mrs Quinn ended the relationship and attempted to stop Mr Blunkett from seeing their son.
