One of three Tube stations that had been closed since the July 7 suicide bombings reopened this morning.

Aldgate station had been shut since Shahzad Tanweer blew himself up on a Circle Line train as it approached the station from Liverpool Street, killing himself and seven rush hour commuters.

Engineers have now repaired the damage and the station re-opened this morning. Police allowed grieving relatives and survivors to lay floral tributes at the station, which serves the Bakerloo and Circle lines.

But Edgware Road and Russell Square stations, the other Tube stops targeted on July 7, remain closed. A Transport for London spokeswoman said it was hoped that Edgware Road would reopen on August 2. The re-opening of Russell Square is dependant on an ongoing police forensic investigation, she added.

The Metropolitan Line, which had been closed from Moorgate to Aldgate, also resumed a full service this morning, but the Circle Line remains suspended, while the Piccadilly Line, District Line and Hammersmith and City Line are not serving some stretches.

Circle - suspended (due to 7 July)

District - suspended between Edgware Road and High Street Kensington (due to 7 July)

East London - normal service

Hammersmith & City - no service between Paddington Station and Baker Street Station in both directions. A shuttle train service is operating between Hammersmith and Paddington in addition, at peak hours only between Baker Street and Barking.
