Falco Moludi and Apaon Mosengo, both 15, attacked so many pupils at one school that police had to send a minibus to transport their victims to an identity parade.
Police believe that the pair committed 35 offences between them during a three-month “reign of terror” at the school.
The boys were members of a gang called the Man Dem Crew and posed with a pump-action shotgun on a website devoted to their crimes. The pair wore balaclavas while preying on pupils at Bishop Thomas Grant School in Streatham, South London.
Francis McGrath, for the prosecution, said: “Moludi and Mosengo, known as Smacks, met at a day centre for expelled pupils. They soon gained notoriety as they targeted vulnerable schoolboys between January and April this year.
“In a tactic seen in gangster movies, victims were violently frisked for valuables. In one incident they crept into the school grounds and ordered seven pupils to line up against a wall as they rifled through their pockets. One 16-year-old victim needed hospital treatment after being punched and kicked.”
According to police, another boy’s jaw was broken by a blow to the face. The pair targeted pupils they thought had mobile phones and, on one occasion, Moludi waved an imitation handgun. They even threatened the school’s assistant headmaster when he chased them out of the playground.
The boys smirked and giggled throughout the sentencing hearing at Inner London Crown Court, shouting at one police officer: “Two bullets. Bang, bang. You’re dead”, as they were led to the cells.
Moludi, of Kennington, South London, was ordered to be detained for 3½ years after admitting robbery, attempted robbery, possession of an imitation firearm and three counts of consipracy to rob. Mosengo, from Streatham, was given a three-year sentence for robbery and conspiracy to rob.
Judge Roberts Pendergast told the pair: “There was a reign of terror at the school . . . It was so widespread that some of the pupils of that school must have begun to think that it was normality, that it was part of a culture.”
The gang’s website displayed gangster rap lyrics written by members about their love of guns and violence. The Home Office said that it lacked the powers to shut down the site.
