Brother guilty of 'honour' killing

A man was found guilty of the “honour” killing of another man who had a secret relationship with his sister.

Ahmed Bashir, 21, was hacked to death after Nighat Afsar’s family found out.

Mr Bashir was ambushed by Waseem Afsar, 32, and Nisar Khan, 31, and chased into a garden where he struck with a scimitar sword and a 10in knife. He died from 40 stab wounds, mainly to his groin.

Mr Bashir’s friend Abdul Ebrahimkhail, 24, was also wounded when he tried to intervene, but survived the attack in July, 1996 in Hounslow, West London. Afsar and Khan both of Slough, Berkshire, were found guilty of murder and attempted murder. They had denied the charges. They were remanded in custody until Friday when they are due to be sentenced to life imprisonment.

Afsar had discovered that Nighat had been in a two-year relationship with Mr Bashir, who was refusing to give her back her car.

Afsar had been wanted by police in connection with a murder the previous year and was subsequently found guilty and jailed for life. Afsar and Khan were charged with Mr Bashir’s murder last year after a re-investigation of the case.
