Molly's mother must attend court

The mother of Molly Campbell, the 12-year-old at the centre of an international custody battle, will travel to Pakistan for a court hearing.

Louise Campbell, 38, who claims that her daughter was abducted by her father from her home on the Isle of Lewis in August, must appear at the hearing in Lahore on November 17 for the case to proceed, a judge ruled yesterday.

Ms Campbell has claimed in legal documents that her husband, Sajad Ahmed Rana, threatened to harm her if she visited the country. Mr Rana, 46, has been granted interim custody of Molly by a court in Pakistan, but Ms Campbell has challenged the decision. She was awarded custody of Molly last year by a British court.

Molly, who says she wants to be known by her Islamic name, Misbah Iram Ahmed Rana, has described her former home in Stornoway as a “hellhole” and says that she went to Lahore voluntarily and wants to stay there with her father.

Lawyers for Ms Campbell said yesterday that their client would consider allowing Molly to be schooled in Pakistan and spend holidays in Scotland.
