Lady Frances Armstrong-Jones, 27, married Austrian-born Rodolphe von Hofmannsthal in a ceremony in St George’s Church in Hanover Square, central London.
Among the guests were the actress Sienna Miller, photographed sporting a bandaged thumb and smoking a cigarette as she left the ceremony with her on-off boyfriend Jude Law.
Armstrong-Jones is Snowdon’s daughter by his second marriage, to Lucy Lindsay-Hogg, which followed his divorce from Princess Margaret in 1978. Lady Lucy separated from Snowdon, 76, in 1998 after she discovered he had fathered a son by a journalist more than 30 years his junior.
The couple never divorced and they both arrived and left yesterday’s ceremony together.
Von Hofmannsthal, who runs the Dicksmith gallery in east London, is said to have popped the question on Brighton beach after the pair met in a bar in Soho. Like Snowdon, he has also trained as a photographer.
He is the grandson of the poet and dramatist Hugo von Hofmannsthal, who collaborated with Richard Strauss. At the time the engagement was announced the gallery owner said he followed convention and asked for Armstrong-Jones’s hand in the traditional fashion by seeking her father’s approval.
Snowdon, who proposed to Princess Margaret after she accepted an invitation to ride pillion on his motor-scooter, was apparently delighted and promptly hugged his prospective son-in-law.
