Kate Moss today returned to London to meet detectives investigating allegations of cocaine use.
The 32-year-old supermodel was questioned at Scotland Yard by officers investigating the publication of grainy photographs in which she was apparently snorting the Class A drug in a west London recording studio.
It was the first time that the fashion icon from Croydon has been back to Britain since September, when stills from the digital video footage showing Moss and her then boyfriend Peter Doherty, 26, were printed in the Daily Mirror.
Her silver Mercedes was swamped by photographers and TV crews as it pulled out of the police station at shortly after 3.30pm.
Detectives have stated that Moss is unlikely to be charged, because police did not seize any illegal substances from her. She was instead being interviewed under caution as detectives attempt to build more evidence against the man they believe to be her supplier.
For the past two months, Scotland Yard has been running a high-profile publicity campaign to encourage Moss to return for questioning. She is believed to have flown to Britain on a private plane from the Alps, where she has been skiing with French publisher Jean Yves Le Fur, 42, after celebrating her birthday in Paris last weekend.
A senior officer revealed that after searches of the recording studio and an analysis of the video footage, detectives were now confident they have identified the man believed to have supplied Moss with the cocaine. The source suggested that she would receive a sympathetic hearing from detectives if she agreed to incriminate the dealer.
Moss lost lucrative contracts with fashion retailer H&M, and designers Chanel and Burberry as a result of the controversy but later released a statement in which she admitted "full responsibility" for her actions.
She spent 30-days in a rehab clinic in Arizona, and is now thought to be making plans to settle in Los Angeles with her three-year-old daughter, Lila Grace. A caution may make such a plan difficult.
A spokesman for Scotland Yard said: "A 32 year old woman has voluntarily attended a London police office today in relation to a Met investigation into allegations of possible drug abuse, as reported in newspaper reports. She has not been arrested."
On Saturday, The Times revealed that Scotland Yard had established a team of undercover officers to target middle-class cocaine users. In London alone, some 250,000 people are believed to use the drug as a recreation each weekend.
Mr Doherty, the singer with pop band Babyshambles, is on remand in prison on an unconnected charge of possessing heroin. He is due to appear at Ealing Magistrates on February 8 for sentencing.
