Terrorism suspect loses appeal

Farid Hilali, a 38-year-old Moroccan, has been held since his arrest in South London in September 2003 over claims that he helped to plot the 9/11 operation.

His lawyers claim that there is no evidence against him and allege that he has been tortured by MI5 agents.

But three Appeal Court judges ruled: “None of the reasons put forward amounts to a ground why the appellant should not be extradited.”

His removal was sanctioned by the courts in June last year, but his lawyers appealed against the finding.

The intelligence services released telephone conversations allegedly with a fellow al-Qaeda plotter in Spain about plans to fly hijacked planes into buildings.

Mr Hilali, who was discovered to have entered the country illegally, arrived in 1987 and remained here for ten years before travelling to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Afghanistan using forged documents.
