WPC’s killer jailed for 20 years

LEEDS A man was jailed for 20 years for the manslaughter of Police Constable Sharon Beshenivsky.

Hassan Razzaq, 26, is the fourth man to be sentenced over the killing. He was found guilty at a trial in Newcastle upon Tyne last year.

PC Beshenivsky, 38, was shot and killed in Bradford in November 2005 while trying to stop an armed robbery carried out by Razzaq and the other men. Sentencing Razzaq at Leeds Crown Court, Justice Andrew Smith said: “It’s the implication of the jury’s verdict that you knew that loaded guns . . . would not only be carried by the raiders but used to threaten those who got in the way.

“You were involved in planning the robbery several days before. This was not impulsive behaviour but measured and determined offending.” Outside court, Detective Superintendent Andy Brennan said that he was pleased with the sentence.
