LONDON More than half of children using the internet have had an “unwanted experience” online as the trend of using social networking sites increases, a new poll suggests.
The survey for the NSPCC said that 50.4 per cent of children had been bullied, threatened or asked to perform sexual acts.
The charity urged children worried about abuse to call ChildLine on 0800 1111 or to visit the website www.donthideit.com.

Is this true? Are these figures accurate. How many children were polled and how did the children access this poll?
What questions were the children asked and how were the questions in this poll phrased?
It would be in the public interest for the NSPCC to explain how these figures were arrived at so that we can all be clear as to the volume of 'unwanted experiences' that the children are being exposed to.
As for being threatened, bullied or asked to perform sex acts, that is very serious and we must be fully informed, by the NSPCC how they arrived at the numbers of these things being experienced by the children.
A complete explaination of how the figures published by the NSPCC were arrived at, would be useful for all of us adults and children who use the internet as tool on a daily basis.
On the practical side. How can I stop all those poker and bingo pop-ups?
