ONE man was murdered, another wounded and a teenager shot in the leg over a 20-minute period in Manchester this weekend.
The dead man, who was 23, was shot dead in a drive-by shooting just before midnight on Friday in Chorlton.
Gunmen in two cars, one a green Honda Legend, drove along Mansfield Avenue, firing at a group standing in a nearby road, killing one and hitting a 33-year-old in the leg.
It was reported locally that the group were attending a wake following the funeral of Ucal Chin, a 24-year-old murdered in another drive-by shooting six weeks ago. Around 20 minutes after Friday’s killing a 14-year-old boy was shot in the leg in nearby Hulme Park.
He is being treated in hospital where his condition is not believed to be life threatening. The injured man is understood to be in a stable condition. Police have not confirmed the two incidents are related.
The gun violence follows two other shootings in the city earlier in the week.
Police have declined to comment on any possible links between the latest incidents and the funeral. Yesterday Chief Superintendent David Keller denied that gun crime was out of control but said it was “a difficult time”.
There has also been a number of shootings in London. David Taitt, 20, has been charged with the murder of Abukar Mahamud, 16, who was killed after being chased and gunned down by a gang on bikes last week in Stockwell, south London. A man has also been arrested in connection with the murder of former British heavyweight boxer James Oyebola, 47, shot in a London nightclub last week.
