A frail 94-year-old pensioner who looked “like a concentration camp victim” just weeks after being taken into a care home died of neglect, an investigation has ruled.
Molly Darby’s family were stunned at the way she deteriorated after she was moved into the The Beeches Residential Care Home in Wath upon Dearne, South Yorkshire, when she became too weak to care for herself.
The great-grandmother was admitted to hospital with a chest infection, pneumonia, septicaemia, a urinary infection, a bad ear infection and pressure sores.
Staff at Barnsley Hospital were unable to save her. The care home has been found to have been negligent in its care, after an inquiry by Rotherham council social services.
The home will be subject to regular inspections by the council.
Her son Jim Darby, 67, said: “When I saw her in hospital she looked like something out of Belsen or Auschwitz.”

That is absolutely disgusting......sadly though, it is happening all too frequently.
And I really don't see what difference regular inspections are going to make....shouldn't they have already been in place?

Weren't the family visiting her enough to spot these problems developing? I totally condemn the care home and I agree that care of the elderly is disgusting - and unfortunately the families have to be the ones keeping an eye and standing up for the old person. It is very tough on old people who don't have families to fight for them. This case ought to show those who do have elderly relatives in homes or hospitals, that they have a responsibility to keep a close eye on them. I wish I could think it would improve the standard of care for ALL old people
