These are extracts from a 999 call made by a 14-year-old girl, who was sobbing and hysterical as she begged for an ambulance to come to and save Sophie Lancaster and her boyfriend Robert Maltby after they were attacked in Stubbylee Park, Bacup, Lancashire.
The harrowing 13-minute recording was played to Preston Crown Court today, the first day of the murder trial of a 15-year-old boy accused of murdering Miss Lancaster. The call was seemingly made as the attack came to an end. The tape begins with the witness speaking to an operator at ambulance control.
Girl: “We need, we need an ambulance at Bacup Park, this mosher’s just been banged because he’s a mosher. We need an ambulance at Bacup Park quick on the skate park.”
As the operator asks for the address of the incident she adds, “It’s a mosher just been banged for no reason.
“Yeah we need an ambulance because he’s lying on the floor not even breathing.
“I don’t even know him but he’s just been battered and it’s horrible.”
In the background the girl’s two male friends, teenage boys, try to stop the attack.
An unknown male can be heard shouting: “Oy, get the f*ck off him now!”
Another voice is heard saying: “What you standing about, he’s on the floor man, he’s practically fucking dead - kicking his head in.”
The girl continues: “Everyone is still on him, but don’t tell ’em I’m on the phone to you right now.”
She then tells the operator that Miss Lancaster has also been attacked.
Girl: “His girlfriend is on the floor as well. They’re still breathing but they are full of blood. Please just send an ambulance quick. She’s choking on her blood, please will you help us quick?”
