The husband of an Emmy-winning make-up artist today appeared in court charged with her murder, four months after she went missing.

The remains of 48-year-old Diane Chenery-Wickens were found on Thursday, by a woman walking her dog.

She was identified by dental records but a post mortem failed to identify a cause of death.

Mrs Chenery-Wickens was reported missing by her husband David, 51, on January 24 after she failed to turn up for a meeting with the BBC in London.

The couple lived in the small village of Duddleswell, near Crowborough, East Sussex.

Mrs Chenery-Wickens' body was discovered just a few miles away in the nearby village of Little Horsted, near Uckfield.

David Chenery-Wickens was arrested following the discovery and late last night was charged with his wife's murder.

He appeared at Hastings Magistrates Court this morning wearing a brown jumper and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth during the short hearing.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on August 22.

Mrs Chenery-Wickens had worked on BBC shows including costume drama Pride and Prejudice, The League of Gentlemen and Casualty and she won the prestigious Emmy in 2000 for work on Arabian Nights.

In 2003 she received a Bafta nomination in the make-up and hair design category for BBC2's satirical sketch show Dead Ringers.
