A man who posted videos of his speeding, drug-taking and other offences on YouTube has been banned from boasting about his criminal activities on the internet.
Andrew Kellett, 23, was branded the city’s “dumbest criminal” by Leeds City Council after posting more than 80 videos showing himself and others committing a range of offences.
The videos included leaving a petrol station apparently without paying, trespassing and shouting abuse, dangerous driving and racing at high speeds and the taking of class A drugs.
Yesterday, Kellett, of Stanks Drive, Swarcliffe, Leeds, who has been previously convicted of various offences, received an interim anti-social behaviour order (Asbo) at Leeds Magistrates’ Court to stop him showing unlawful activities on the video-sharing website.
Some of his videos, which appeared on YouTube under the username “mrchimp2007”, were shown to magistrates at the Asbo hearing.
The films also included Kellett refusing to pay a private hire driver the correct fare and other people setting off fireworks in a wheelie bin and in a microwave oven in the road. Kellett even filmed himself receiving a suspended sentence for an offence at Leeds Magistrates’ Court.
Today, councillor Les Carter, of Leeds City Council, said: “Kellett must be in the running to be Leeds’s dumbest criminal. He has handed us the evidence against him on a plate.
"In the last three years, we have seen a 32-per cent reduction in crime in Leeds. If more criminals were as obliging, the city would be even safer.”
Mr Carter said any breach of the interim Asbo could result in Kellett being jailed.
Under the terms of the order, which will last until a full Asbo hearing next month, Kellett cannot post any image or description of unlawful activity on the internet.
He is also banned from taking part in dangerous or anti-social driving on private land or public roads, which includes driving in excess of the speed limit, racing other vehicles on the public highway and failing to observe traffic regulations.
The order states he cannot act in a manner which causes alarm, harassment or distress to any person in England and Wales.
Kellett opposed the interim Asbo, claiming that he was simply a bystander filming and the offences would have happened whether he was there or not. He also claimed the Asbo would potentially breach his human rights by restricting his right to free expression.
An application for a full Asbo will be made at a hearing at Leeds Magistrates’ Court on July 15.

He's hardly the UK's dumbest criminal if he's figured out a way to commit so many crimes and avoid prison. That guy checking out the necklace he'd stolen in a CCTV camera reflection is still winning in my opinion.
Just goes to show how retarded our whole police/court system is these days :)
Stephen, Torquay,
This just shows how low our justice system has gone. Makes you wonder what you need to do to end up in prison these days. If filming youself commited crimes won't do it, what will?

"Under the terms of the order, which will last until a full Asbo hearing next month, Kellett cannot post any image or description of unlawful activity on the internet. "
He posted on his youtube page 3 days ago describing crimes he's commited. This is breaking his ASBO. Surely prison now?
Andy McAdam, Huntingdon, UK
Here's me thinking that driving dangerously and speeding were against the law anyway...
What sort of punishment is being reminded of the laws you're not allowed to break??!!
Scott, Nottingham,
I live near Leeds and frequently travel to and from each week by car for various business. Noticed how fast some people drove and decided to see if insight into the Leeds street racing and general criminality scene was evident.
I noticed this guy a while back as one who stood out, and now this.
Mike, Harrogate, England
Yes, he's dumb.
Almost as dumb as the system that had 80+ pieces of evidence and only doles out a piece of paper to say "You've been a very naughty boy...if you do it again you'll be in trouble".
Chris, South Wales,
This person has nothing to be scared of. They will just keep slapping his wrist until he commits a major crime, and then they will put him somewhere nice and snug, give him three decent meals a day, a tv, a games console to play on, and release him well before his sentence is due to end.
Toby, Hastings, UK
Awesome, so I can ignore speed limits and all other traffic regulations to my heart's content since I don't have an ASBO saying I have to obey them? What a pity I've been under the impression that they were already covered by the law all this time!
Penny, Bristol,
And as Youtube has not taken the videos down yet you can still go and watch them.
So as well as being on TimesOnline he is also going to get hundreds more hits on Youtube today.
Well done to the media once again!
Alex, London,
It's not so much dumb, but the knowledge that he can do these offenses and quite easily get away with it.
"Kellett even filmed himself receiving a suspended sentence for an offence at Leeds Magistrates Court"
Need I say anymore?
Patrick Bateman, London,
This is the result of to much unemployment for too long. Put them ALL to work, long hours, so mrchimp doesn't have any time left for monkey business.
Rui, Lisbon, Portugal
His username is mrchimp? Sounds a little too intelligent for this guy.
William , Ilkley,
"Kellett must be in the running to be Leedss dumbest criminal. He has handed us the evidence against him on a plate."
I often watch shows such as "Police, Camera, Action" and one thing that never fails to amaze me is how little these people get for their (persistent) crimes. An ASBO? Prison....
charles, Cambridge, Great Britain
Have I missed something here?
Why has he only got an ASBO for posting these things on YouTube? Shouldnt he have been prosecuted for committing them? It would appear to be the ideal opportunity for the Police to quickly and easily improve their crime detection rates..!
Nick, Coventry,
His YouTube name 'Mrchimp' is an insult to chimps (though he has saved the police money by filming his own crimes) , but are the magistrates who handed him an ASBO - a virtual 'badge of honour' to the thugs - much better? Surely it's time to adopt California's a three-strikes-and-you're-out policy.
