FLOWERS and blood stains mark another south London street today as an 18-year-old became the 14th teenager this year to be killed in the capital, after what his friends said was a row over a mobile phone.
The stabbed teenager, Rob Knox, went to the same rugby club as Jimmy Mizen, 16, who was murdered in nearby Lee two weeks ago.
His friends said Rob planned to become an actor and was to appear in a small part in the new Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, which is due out in November. He was to have played Ravensclaw student Marcus Belby.
He died at around 1am outside the Metro Bar in Station Road, Sidcup, Kent, defending his 16-year-old brother, Jamie, after a brawl erupted at the pub.
He was taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich, south east London, where he was pronounced dead. Four other men were also hurt in the fight.
A 21-year-old is being treated for a stab wound to the neck and a 16-year-old, believed to be Jamie, sustained a stab wound to the chest. Another man in his twenties suffered injuries to his hand.
They are being treated at separate hospitals in London.
A 21-year-old man who suffered facial injuries was arrested on suspicion of murder after being discharged from hospital and is currently in custody.
Scores of Rob's friends gathered outside the Metro Bar today in shock at his death.
His cousin, Vicky May, 16, said he was more like her big brother. She said: “You never think it will happen to you. Rob wasn’t a thug, it wasn’t gang-related. Everyone loved him. He was more like a brother, he would always look out for me. He was friends with so many people.”
In a statement, Rob’s parents, Sally and Colin Knox, said: “Rob was kind and thoughtful and would always help out others - he would always spend his last penny on other people instead of himself.
“The life and soul of the party, he was very outgoing, loved sports, and would always strike up a conversation with people.

I don't think that people realise the extent of the situation the country is facing with knife epidemic. Most people make comment without experiencing first hand the devastation that it causes. There are many factors towards people being stabbed, but action is needed urgently by the Government.
Nathaniel Levy, London, UK
I was planning to visit London this year but I will not go to the UK at all. It is a real jungle. You can be stabbed at any place for anything. It is probably safer to stroll in Bronx at night these days than walk down the street in central London. Europe is destructing itself from the inside.
Alan Bose, Nutley N.J.,
Ultimately the individual is to blame but the whole attention does create a paranoia and peopple start thinking everyone is holding and so do so to level the playing field. Its a shame but its nothing new and London has not descended into a jungle.... yet
Peter Gomez, Neasden, England
Bruce, are you kidding me? Just because someone does not go to private school does not mean they will commit more knife crime. Hence the huge amount of teenagers in Comprehensives who DO NOT commit knife crime.
Mary, London,
Before people start casting aspersions on the family or the young people involved, you only had to be at the scene today and read some of the tributes to see that the victim in this case, like Jimmy Mizen the other week, was a totally decent, wonderful, caring and much loved young person.
ann, sidcup, england
Take alcohol out of the equation and how many people would still be alive? How many of these incidents would either not have occurred at all, or would at least have been easier to defuse?
I'm not against drinking. But there is such a fine line before tempers and tragedy.
J Arch, Santa Barbara, CA
Where were the Police? Did anyone call them? Why did those bouncers let the knife gang into the bar? If we had more Police on the streets instead of cameras, young people might have more protection.
Ajna, Glasgow, UK
10 years - no parole , no time off for good behaviour .
Is Sir Ian Blair still in hiding ?
Boris - can we have some law on the streets ?
Jim, Sidcup,
I visit London regularly (mainly the east ends), the city isn't as violent as it may seem to some people.
Nothing bad has happened to me. As long as you keep your cool, mind your own business then your pretty much 'safe'.
But why was the 16yr old boy at a pub around 1am?
Jabed, Manchester, UK
This is heartbreaking for the family and friends of this boy. What a waste. As for the children's commissioner saying that stop and search might alienate children he should be fired with instant effect.
CHARLIE, LONDON, United Kingdom
Its alright trying to blame people for it but what realy needs to be done is people have to start acting. Discipline should be increased and higher punishes for those with weapons.
Siobhan , London,
America doesn't have zero tolerance for this sort of thing. America is the land of violence. Too bad you are following in the footsteps of your American cousins. But here the preferred weapon is a gun.
Bruce Northwood, Washington, D.C., USA
Unbelievable!
Every week I have to be told by this newspaper how bad and unacceptable is the crime situation in italy.
That may be true.
But i find outrageous that nobody raises an eyebrow when in Britain knife culture has gone totally out of control.
That's surely worst than organized crime.
Davide, London, UK
I blame hollywoods violent gangsta culture imported in to UK through rap/hip-hop music/films.
jayil, london, uk
Lived in london all my life, excluding 3 years spent at university. In that time despite going to an inner city state school and spending much of my time in supposed violence hotspots have never been stabbed or threatened with the prospect. Bad things happen but there not the norm a little perspect
Ifeanyi Chukwu, London, England
I thought carrying a knife was a criminal offence let alone murdering someone. An eye for an eye.
Charles, Barcelona,
Thanks Gordon Brown for the 'Great' Britain you've left us with.
Rahul, London,
How many of the kids in these fights went to private schools? I suspect not many. May be a connection?
Bruce, Sutton, UK
Just another day in the new Britain.
B J Deller, Marbella, Spain
I agree except for the fact that 7 years is not enough.
Bill, lindford, uk
I do feel for Rob's friends and family and offer them my deepest sympathy.
That said, I am perplexed as to how a 16-year old comes to be in a pub at 1am in the morning.
Mrs Batty, Leeds,
Enough is enough, let's take American style zero tolerance action on this.
The government should impose a 7 year mandatory jail sentence for anyone caught in possesion of a knife.
No ifs,buts or maybes.
We cannot stand idly by as our youth slaughter each other.Society has a duty to stamp this out.
James Currie, London, UK
