A film features girls and boys as young as eight rapping about being members of gangs and wanting to shoot rivals.
The children, members of the Acre Lane Campaign (ALC) in Brixton, south London, boast how they were recruited to the gang.
In one clip, an eight-year-old girl waves the ALC’s trademark blue scarf before rapping to the camera: “F*** your mum, I’ll shoot my gun, ’cos ALC bang bang bang.”
The first-hand account of gang culture, made by Shanelle Bartley, 18, who used to live on the Acre Lane estate, shows that young children, not just teenagers, are being inculcated into a gang ethos, after being recruited by their siblings.
One boy in the film, who appears to be no more than nine, raps to the camera: “I’ll take out my pistol and bust your knees in. The next day you’re on the floor bleedin’.”
Bartley made the short film, Pushed to the Trigger, as part of her studies at Lambeth College nearby. She said: “The people in the film, I have known them since I was little. They didn’t start off as a gang but nowadays everyone wants to rule a certain area – it’s territorial war.”
Bartley now lives a mile or two away in Stockwell, where she has also encountered gangs. “I was prompted to make it by my own life,” she said. “I want young people to see that you don’t have to copy others.”
Shaun Bailey, a youth worker and Conservative parliamentary candidate, said: “Where are the parents in all of this? It is still rare and we have time to turn the situation around.”
Bartley’s film is one of 10 documentaries nominated for the Lambeth Oskars, an awards ceremony to be held next week for first-time film makers with the theme Girls, Guns and Gods.

I work with kids in SW London & they are angry about gang culture & how the media demonises them. The media is really breeding contempt. We need to put the good ones on the map too,If only to prevent them from following in their peers footsteps. We need to start loving our kids! Parents, where are you?
John, London, united kingdom
Mark is right, look at anywhere which has been 'enriched' and made 'vibrant' and 'less boring' and this is what you get. Same in America's Bronx, its like night follows day. We were warned decades ago but nobody wanted to listen. The future here for the rest of us is bleak. When will sanity prevail?

Saying that "this is what most African andCarribbean countries are like" is not true and not at helpful. In order to tackle youth crime and gangs, we need to have an open mind and an open heart. Sliding into prejudice and discrimination by using 'us and them' terminology is NOT the way forward.
Lucy, London, UK
This is what most African and Caribbean countries are like. This is nothing more that enrichment in our multicultural society. Well done the government, see it really is working.
Mark, Leeds,
For the most part, they talk this way because everyone else does. It shows you have kudos if you know the street talk and that's all these children are doing. However, these children will grow into teenagers and then adults and that's where the danger lies.
kim, london,
When i was younger, many west indian parents strongly believed in hard work and education, and 99% of their children do. Now as a teacher i can see that this adoption of american gun culture is a problem of the kids across all communities who are not doing well at school or don`t have a work ethos.

They're just biggin it up for the camera, in reality a lot of it is just talk and bluster.

This evil culture shown in the above video is very worrying indeed and the politicians need to sort it out ASAP - Not keep giving themselves rises and the like !!!!
