The fiancee of one of the failed July 21 suicide bombers was today jailed for three years for helping him to escape by dressing as a Muslim woman in a burka.
Teenager Fardosa Abdullahi gave bomb plot ringleader Yassin Omar her mother’s long black robe to help him flee London the day after the attacks in 2005.
Abdullahi, now 20, got engaged to Omar in an Islamic ceremony four days before he tried to blow up himself with fellow passengers at Warren Street Tube station.
She admitted helping him escape at an Old Bailey hearing last month but her plea could not be reported until today.
Judge Paul Worsley rejected a plea that she should be spared jail because she is now pregnant and was vulnerable at the time of the offence and had a long history of mental illness.
He said: “The message must go out that this court will not go soft on those who assist terrorists, even those who are young, vulnerable and under pressure, as you undoubtedly were.”
Her sentencing today brings to an end a series of cases in which 16 people have either been convicted of or admitted charges linked to the July 21 attacks.
CCTV footage seen at Omar’s trial showed the 6ft 2ins terrorist dressed head to toe in a burka. To make him look more like a woman he had also shaved his arms.
The footage from Golders Green coach station also showed him carrying a white handbag. Abdullahi went there with him the day after his failed attack.
He fled to Birmingham, where he was arrested five days later by armed police. He was later jailed for life with a minimum of 40 years at Woolwich Crown Court.
Abdullahi, of Finchley, north London, pleaded guilty on June 5 at the Old Bailey to a charge of assisting an offender. The charge includes the admission that she helped Omar create a disguise by “dressing as a Muslim woman”, as well as providing him with a telephone and giving false information to police.
A further count of failing to disclose information about acts of terrorism was allowed to lie on file.
The judge said that Abdullahi, who is 24 weeks pregnant, had “as strong a mitigation as is likely in a case such as this”. But he added: “The events of 21/7 followed only two weeks after the carnage of 7/7. Those events were known to all in this country.
“It was imperative that the police received all possible assistance and that they were not misled by the information fed to them.”
The judge told Abdullahi, a Somalian who has been granted indefinite leave to remain: “Your responsibility to this country should have been greater than your responsibility to your husband or fiance, if such he was.”
He said her personal circumstances and guilty plea meant he could reduce the prison sentence from five years. “But prison it must be to reflect the fact that anyone who assists those who set out to kill and maim on a scale not to be contemplated must receive punishment."

Let her serve her sentence and then deport her
john, Bristol, uk
Another reason to have burkas banned. There is nothing in the Koran to say they have to be worn. Anyone who breaks our laws should be deported immidiately, they have overstayed their welcome.
Stone, Enger, Germany
How is this deadbeat somalian in Britain, What does she offer Britain. And finally how is it she is not being DEPORTED
Peter, Vancouver. BC., Canada
I doubt that this creature will serve her full sentence. Some High Court Judge, without the sense of Judge Worsley, will soon proclaim that she has learned her lesson, is being persecuted in prison, and needs her family around her. Then, obviously she will be on benefits .
Anne Wotana Kaye, London, England
Why isn`t she to be deported when her sentence ends?Same old words from judges about the seriousness of the crime but very little action. She will be out in no time,a martyr to those who hate Britain and will live nicely on state benefits,no doubt contributing nothing to this country .
tony f, leeds, west yorks
better to have removed her right to remain here indefinitely - why do we allow these Trojan horses in to the country
William, London, UK
A pitiful sentence for a dangerous person. She should be locked for for at least 10 years and then deported, no money, no benefits, nothing. Treat her with the contempt that she deserves.
Roger, Surrey.,
She claims she was mentally ill - ah! enough said!
Ronald, Sidcup, UK
she probably became pregnant to avoid jail. but it obviously did not work. She should not be allowed to remain here. but undoubtedly when the is released from prison on umanitarian grouds by the pc brigade she will be given a free home, benefits, probably even a new identity and will be laughing
shirley, goole, uk
Well its all been said at the end of the day this is a soft sentence. The true sentence would be deportation which should be automatic in cases like this. Our court system is soft because the EU has imposed on the UK a series of 'get out of jail free' laws for these criminals.
Waldo, Sydney,
Why isn't she just sent back to where she came from? Why must the taxpayer bear the expense of funding her in prison? And why was she allowed to come here in the first place?
vj, london, uk
She got off with a light sentence and should have been given automatic deportation on completion.
The message for foreigners as always from the courts is that no matter how many UK citizens you kill or help to kill you will be allowed to remain and continue claiming your welfare payments.
David Thijm, Stourbridge, UK
"prison it must be to reflect the fact that anyone who assists those who set out to kill and maim " here here, well done that judge.
